Talespinner Children's Theatre is looking for three volunteers/interns during the run of David Hansen’s, “Red Onion, White Garlic,” the first in TCT's 6th season, producing professional works for youth. Assist TCT’s Director of Marketing in promoting the production. Required Skills: Money handling, basic Excel/Google Sheets work. Must be highly personable, as our box office personnel is considered, “front of house,” and act as an ambassador for the company. Required work dates: Must arrange two meetings before the run (can be more based on how much you’re looking to learn*). This evening’s gathering will bring together those who had been part of the project for both a discussion and celebration of the man, the movie and the madness that surrounded those last few days. Hopefully, the audience can help solve the 20 year old mystery of his untimely death. Along the way there may be some surprises and perhaps another unfortunate murder to be solved. Beck Center and Songs at the Center Present: Songwriting in the Spotlight Critically Acclaimed Songwriters and Educators Lead Workshops and Performance Lakewood, OH-Beck Center for the Arts and "Songs at the Center," the Ohio-based TV show that airs across the U.S. on various PBS stations, are pleased to present Songwriting in the Spotlight. This FREE EVENT will take place from 12-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Workshops will be held at Lakewood Catholic Academy located at 14808 Lake Avenue in Lakewood, and the performance will be held in Beck Center's Mackey Theater located at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. The day's events include an afternoon of five workshops, held from 12-5 p.m., geared towards the needs of participants. A student and singer-songwriter track for high school and college students and singer-songwriters includes a 'How to Write Comedic Songs and Parodies' workshop among others. An educators and music therapist track includes a 'Music and 21st Century Learning Skills' workshop and more. Workshop leaders feature critically acclaimed songwriters and educators including Anne E. WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH BEGINS EARLY AT KENT STATE UNIVERSITY AT STARK AS THEATRE PRESENTS SILENT SKY, FEB. 24-26, MARCH 3-5 (NORTH CANTON, OH, Feb. 20, 2017) – March is Women’s History Month, and the Kent State University at Stark Theatre Department’s production of Silent Sky sets the stage for the campus’ month long observance. Silent Sky, by Lauren Gunderson, is the fourth consecutive theatre production here written by a woman, and very much about women’s voices and struggles, according to Brian Newberg, Associate Professor of Theatre and Theatre Director at Kent State Stark. The play will be performed on Feb. 24-26 and March 3-4 at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 26 and March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Kent State Stark Theatre, 6000 Frank Ave., NW, in Jackson Township. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be provided for the March 5 performance at 2 p.m. Based on the true story of Henrietta Leavitt, take a journey in Leavitt’s shoes as a female astronomer at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s – a time when the ideas of women did not come to fruition until men accredited the theories for their own gain. Leavitt must learn to accommodate her love of science with her family responsibilities, and her place as a woman. She transcended her post as a Harvard “computer” (data entry clerk) to make significant observations on the universe, and influence the work of Edwin Hubble, among others. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $7 for non-Kent State students and senior citizens. All Kent State students are admitted free of charge with current student ID. Tickets are on sale now. OK. So, I'm the local artist I'm promoting this time. But, I do advocate that we support all of our local arts and artists - we are a vital part of our local communities and economy, and our larger Northeastern Ohio community and economy. As much as we want the public to support us, we should support each other as much as possible. I know that I can't support everything and everybody. I can't get to as many shows as I'd like to, and I, like most people, have a certain amount of money I can or can't spend on supporting the arts. But, I do what I can, in as many ways as are feasible for me. This is the link to my Indiegogo fundraising campaign, and it's below as part of my signature. I hope you'll take a moment to look at the campaign. Contribute if you can. But, I have a bigger favor to ask... The success of a crowdfunding campaign depends on as much exposure as possible, and, also some targeted marketing.
