Playing the Outcalt Theatre in the Allen Theatre Complex of Playhouse Square March 2-12, 2017, the romantic tragedy is one of The Bard's most beloved classics. The Story Directed by CSU Associate Professor Dr. Michael Mauldin, ROMEO & JULIET is one of Shakespeare's most recognized masterpieces. Romeo of the Montagues and Juliet of the Capulets fall in love, but their families are embroiled in an age-old feud, so they marry in secret. When Juliet's parents betroth her to another, and Romeo gets caught up in the death of a Capulet, these ill-fated lovers are tossed into a whirlwind of wretched fate that leaves both sides shocked and changed for all time. Director Dr. Michael Mauldin believes that Shakespeare's actors were swift and dazzling. "I hope to bring the excitement, fun, and heartbreak that Elizabethan audiences witnessed to Cleveland audiences," he says. Junior Theatre Major Sarah Blubaugh (who plays Juliet) agrees. "She's not the Juliet you've seen time and time again. I'm really excited to play her because it's another chance to show off a strong female in Shakespeare." HELLCAB is a seventy-minute collection of scenes from a day in the life of a Chicago cabbie. Beginning with a 6:30 a.m. trip by a born-again couple…the cabbie's long day's journey proceeds with fares from, among many others, a dangerous trio of druggies, a piggish mini-capitalist, a benumbed rape victim, an argumentative pair of fellow cabbies, a drunken woman on welfare, a smug lawyer, a randy couple on the way to a motel, and two boisterous New Yorkers out on the town. Alternately frightening, hilarious and poignant, these sharply etched blackouts and cameos…are capped by a stunning and very touching final scene. WHEN: Saturday, March 4, 2017, 7pm - 9pm WHERE: Gypsy Beans & Baking Co., 6425 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102 WHAT: Informal sharing group for writers of all kinds, all experience levels, to come and read work, meet other writers, find artistic partners and friends. Modeled after a writing open mic of the same name held twice-monthly at Hugo House in Seattle, WA. No critiques. No formal feedback (though you are welcome to meet and talk with writers after). Just an open, sharing space to say the words you are writing in front of others who are doing that, too. Poetry, song lyrics, plays, screenplays, novels, essays, articles, memoirs, etc. Any type of writing is welcome - even longer pieces - as long as you can fit the piece, or an excerpt of it, into your given time slot. French Creek Theatre's 'NEW' Play Club to read Arthur Miller's All My Sons Read aloud and discuss a different play each month! Tuesday, March 7th 6:30PM-9:00PM Scripts and light refreshments provided. This month: All My Sons by Arthur Miller. During the war Joe Keller and Steve Deever ran a machine shop which made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the firm turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of many men. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the young Keller son was reported missing during the war dominate the action. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father's partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power. The climax showing the reaction of a son to his guilty father is fitting conclusion to a play electrifying in its intensity.
