THE 2017 NEOMFA PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL OPENS THIS THURS, FEBRUARY 9 AT CONVERGENCE-CONTINUUM. TWO WEEKENDS / TWO WORLD-PREMIERE PLAYS BY AREA GRAD-STUDENT PLAYWRIGHTS. For the sixth year, convergence-continuum presents the NEOMFA Playwrights Festival. This year there are two world-premiere plays by local graduate-student playwrights. These plays are part of a three-year intensive program of study under playwright and Cleveland State University professor Mike Geither, and are co-produced by convergence -continuum and the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts (NEOMFA) in Creative Writing consortium. FEB 9, 10, 11: THE DARKNESS BY KATIE WALLACE, RENEE SCHILLING AND ROB DANIELS. Thu-Sat at 8 pm. The Darkness is a darkly comic fable following the travails of Duncan as he journeys through a circus, suburbia and a sinister office building. Duncan is a believer in The Light, an organization which may or may not be a cult. As he attempts to convert human cannonballs and cookie-baking housewives alike, he discovers the true light may rest in the restorative power of Phil Collins' songs, pink lemonade and whoopee cushions - but not necessarily in that order. FEB 16, 17 18: SEXUAL POLITICS BY JC CIFRANIC. Thu-Sat at 8 pm. In Sexual Politics, the Deputy Mayor of Vienna is trying to clean-up the morals of the city. When Isabella's gay brother is arrested, she has to rely on unlikely friends to keep him out of jail in this topical, modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure. The 2017 NEOMFA Playwrights Festival opens Thursday, Feb. 9 and runs at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through Feb. 18 at con-con's Liminis Theater, 2438 Scranton Rd., Cleveland, OH 44113. Emerging writers may study in four genres – creative non-fiction, fiction, playwriting, and poetry – and take advantage of the resources offered on all four campuses. Since its inception in 2005, the NEOMFA has offered small-group workshops, open readings, summer travel fellowships, and high-profile visiting writers, in addition to career-preparing internships, competitive graduate funding, and a diverse Midwestern landscape that tempts the creative eye. The playwriting program is centered at Cleveland State University and includes providing MFA playwrights the opportunity to work with, and to have their works given full productions by, a professional theatre c ompany during the NEOMFA Playwrights Festival.

Dear Northeast Ohio artists, We are extending the deadline for submission for the 17-18 season. Typically over half of CPT's season is locally created work! Let us know your ideas by February 20th! CPT is focused on new work that is surprising, unexpected and somehow outside the realm of conventional theatre. Please send your proposals electronically to CPT's Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan at rbobgan(a)cptonline.org<mailto:rbobgan@cptonline.org>. Subject line: Your Name and "Season Proposal" - for example: Jane Smith, Season Proposal. If you want to include video please post to VIMEO or other website and send link. CPT is looking for proposals from Northeast Ohio artists for complete projects. Proposals may be from directors or playwrights for world premieres, second or third US productions, radical re-envisionings of classic plays or other projects. The show could be your own show or a script you would like to work on. Before sending a proposal: * Take time to look at CPT's recent seasons-these are excellent examples of our programming choices. Click Here for the Season Archive<http://www.cptonline.org/performances/seasons/>. * Get a sense of CPT's aesthetic and artistic sensibility-if you haven't seen a lot of shows at CPT, talk to people who have. * CPT has a culture of doing a lot with a little and production budgets are modest. Submitting a Proposal Proposals of complete projects should be 1-3 pages long, not including script or work samples, and must include: * a one page summary of the project: including why this project fits CPT's mission and why it's important to you as an artist * your sense of what state the project is currently in and a general plan to bring it to completion * a resume for all primary artists involved * additional materials that will help us get a sense of the project: copy of proposed script, sample of past work, video, etc. please mention if you are interested in co-producing options Deadline for proposals is January 30th, 2017. If you are submitting an idea for a play that is already written by an outside artist, please keep in mind that others may be proposing the same script (for example, suggesting a script does not mean you have dibs on doing it at CPT). Teaching out of my home in Summit county, I specialize in getting beginners started on the ukulele. I try to go beyond the basic 3 chords and introduce my students to some jazz chord techniques. I can also work on their vocal performance. I have 35 years of experience as a professional Big Band, theater arts and jazz standards vocalist and can help their vocal accompaniment with this marvelous instrument. I work with students on a "goal" song and will introduce them to other songs. I have performed in all kinds of venues as a professional singer, with and without the ukulele. References are available.
