Hudson Players Announce 73rd Season Hudson's Community Theater Announces Schedule for 2017-18. The Hudson Players have officially announced their 2017-18 Season of high quality shows and award winning theater at a local price. They begin the year in November with the contemporary American drama, A Few Good Men, continue with popular nunsensical musical comedy, Nunsense (to be presented in February), and conclude in April/May with the hysterical, Tony winning, Mel Brooks musical comedy The Producers. More about our season: A Few Good Men, a contemporary American drama by Aaron Sorkin, is being presented November 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 17 & 18, 2017. This Broadway hit about the trial of two Marines for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay sizzles on stage. The Navy lawyer, a callow young man more interested in softball games than the case, expects a plea bargain and a cover up of what really happened. Prodded by a female member of his defense team, the lawyer eventually makes a valiant effort to defend his clients and, in so doing, puts the military mentality and the Marine code of honor on trial. "Enormously entertaining." - New York Daily News Nunsense, a nunsensical musical comedy will be presented February 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 18, 23 & 24, 2018. Written by Dan Goggin, and Winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Best Off Broadway Musical, Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of "Grease." Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head. Featuring star turns, tap dancing, nun ballet, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon. The Producers, a Mel Brooks' musical comedy with a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music and lyrics by Brooks, sets the standard for modern, outrageous, humor and unrivaled good times. Running April 27 & 28, May 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 20, 25 & 26, 2018, it is a truly "boffo" hit, winning a record twelve Tony Awards (including best musical) and wowing capacity crowds night after night. Hiring Diverse Actors (All Races & Genders) for Civil Rights Testing in Cleveland

The Center for Civil Rights is hiring actors of all races and genders in the Cleveland area to help us investigate discrimination. We conduct civil rights testing across the country. For example, if we believe that a bank is discriminating on the basis of race, we’ll hire a white actor and an actor of color to both go to the bank “undercover," and inquire about a loan. If we find that there is a pattern and practice of discrimination, we may file a complaint. We pay actors $150 for a typical assignment. Our training will be in Cleveland on Saturday, May 6th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Participants will be paid $75 for completing the training. The 20th Century Limited was one of the most well-known trains in the world, with famous, infamous, and not-so-famous passengers intermingling with each other while basking in the lap of luxury for 16 hours between Chicago and New York City. For the final show of the Hudson Players season, the legendary train and its zany passengers are the brought back to life in On the Twentieth Century, a classic screwball comedy musical with book and lyrics by Adolph Green and Betty Comden and music by Cy Coleman. Love and mischief collide on the tracks when down on this luck and bankrupt theater producer Oscar Jaffee, the flamboyant impresario with a sinking reputation after four flops in a row, embarks on a madcap mission to cajole the glamorous Lily Garland, a Hollywood star and former Jaffee protégé - and lover - into playing the lead in his new, and currently nonexistent, epic drama. Is the 16-hour train ride long enough to reignite the spark between these former lovers, create a play from scratch, and find the money to have it produced on Broadway? Throw in a rival producer with his own agenda, a wealthy religious nut, Oscar's henchmen and various passengers and crew members that add zest to the merry, madcap journey. Part operetta, part farce and all fun, On the Twentieth Century is a great night of musical theatre. The winner of five Tony awards during its original run back in the late 70s, the show featured John Cullum, Madeline Kahn and Kevin Kline. A Broadway revival in 2015 showcased Kristin Chenoweth's talents as Lily. Dave Stebbins is directing and serving as musical director. His last outing for Hudson Players was Spamalot, another crowd-pleasing zany musical. Ron Jones, most recently musical director for Mary Poppins, is the assistant musical director. Amie Gabel is the choreographer and Tim Steiner has designed an amazing set along with serving as technical director for the show. Gary Maher and Jennifer Matas are the producers. The characters of Oscar and Lily are played by Don Bernardo and Chandra Porter. Mike Guffey and Sean Donovan play Oscar' loyal henchmen, while Jim Wolf is Lily's new boyfriend. Nathan Hill plays the role of a rival producer and Sharon Lloyd is the wacky religious nut who may or may not have the money to fund Oscar's new venture. Brian Diehl plays multiple roles, including a congressman caught in an embarrassing situation in a train car and Shelley Palumbo is a diva from Oscar and Lily's past. WHAT: Auditions for Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida WHEN: Saturday 5/6 and Sunday 5/7 from 1-5pm (choose 1 day) WHERE: The MAD* Factory, 39 South Main Street Suite 310, Oberlin, 44074. WHO: Adults and students ages 13 and up. PLEASE PREPARE: Two 16-bar cuts in the style of the show. Bring sheet music, accompanist is provided. Dress comfortably and plan to stay the whole time. There will be a dance call and we will also teach a cut of a song from the show to the whole group. Please be prepared to write down all scheduling conflicts you have for the months of June and July. Performance dates are July 21st through 30th. If cast, there is a $50 participation fee. For teenagers cast, there is also a (super fun) teen camp that will take place the week of June 12th, with a separate $100 fee. Call producer Linda at 440-935-3875 with any questions.
