Weathervane Playhouse unveils finalists for the 7th annual 8 x 10 TheatreFest 142 plays narrowed to eight! You the audience will pick the winner! One twist in Weathervane's contest is the use of a special prop, which must be featured in each of the entries. This year's prop was a deck of Tarot cards. The prop is picked by the previous year's audience. All eight finalist plays will be presented at each of the festival's four performances: Thursday, July 13, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 16 at 2:30 pm. Audiences will vote to select the first, second and third place winners of the festival. They also will have the opportunity to help select the 2018 festival's inspirational prop! See the staged reading culmination of a week-long workshop for some of the Cleveland area's newest and brightest children's theatre playwrights! At the completion of the 2017 PLAYground program, one of the four scripts may be placed in consideration for a full, mainstage production in our 2019 season. Be the first of your friends to be able to say, "I saw it before anyone else did!” Each production runs 45 minutes to an hour. Admission is free, donations welcome. No reservations necessary. ANNIE GET YOUR GUN scored a bulls eye when it returned to Broadway in 1999, starring Bernadette Peters and sporting a revised libretto by Tony, Oscar and Emmy winner Peter Stone. As Newsday reported, Stone's revisions 'are sweetly ingenious, and the show is a dream.' Stone reshaped the 1946 book to create a Wild West show-within-a-show that frames the ageless 'Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better' love story of sharpshooters Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. Stone has added a secondary romance between the younger sister of Frank's bothersome assistant Dolly, and a boy who is (to Dolly's horror) part Native American. 'The book has been updated in ways that pass p.c. muster,' reported Time Magazine, 'without losing all the fun.' Joined to the new book, of course, is that amazing Irving Berlin score, featuring hit after hit after hit. 'Irving Berlin's greatest achievement in the theater,' wrote the New York Post, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN 'will always be a musical for the ages, one of the Broadway theater's enduring triumphs.' “NIGHTS IN THE HEIGHTS” FREE OUTDOOR ROCK CONCERT AND CRUISE-IN The City of Broadview Heights is pleased to host the second ofits three outdoor rock concerts. It willbe held Friday, July 21st, rainor shine, from 7PM to 10PM. Theconcert will feature the band “The Teabags”.
