Mighty Goliath Productions is celebrating their 59th season with BIG FISH! The proceeds from our annual production will be donated to the performing arts programs of the Avon Lake city schools. Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, Big Fish centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest… and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him – most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales. Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft, Big Fish is an extraordinary new Broadway musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre – for an experience that’s richer, funnier and BIGGER than life itself. Our process is very unique in that the whole cast rehearses just once per week on Friday evenings from 7-10 pm. For this production some principles will also rehearse on Monday evenings. Rehearsals will begin October 27th. The production runs February 9-17 at the Daniel B. Ross Performing Arts Center in Avon Lake. WHAT: BIG FISH Directed by Douglas F. Beyond auditioning, you may participate in an MGP show by simply attending our first rehearsal. In addition we will also need musicians for our Pit Orchestra and stage crew. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN In addition to the named characters, MGP is seeking a number of talented dancers (particularly with tap experiences) of all ages. As well as anyone with special skills that may be found in a circus such as juggling, tumbling, acrobatics, magic, etc. Edward Bloom- (G2-A4) originally play by Norbert Leo Butz, a loving husband and father who leads a complex imaginary life with many fantasy friends; requires a singer, dancer who ages from 18 to 60+; a huge heart, a great sense of humor and a vivid imagination Will Bloom- (C#3-D4) approximately 30 years old. Edward’s son, a realist and a pragmatist; and the polar opposite of Edward. His journey of reconciliation with his father is the story of the musical. This is the second male lead and requires a strong actor who sings beautifully. Sandra Bloom- (G3-E5) Edward’s wife, a loving wife who completely understands her husband and who seeks and believes in the possibility of reconciliation between her husband and son. This is the leading female role that requires an actor who ages from 18 to 60+ and who is both a strong actress and singer – and very good mover. Josephine Bloom- (G3-Db5) Will’s wife, a lovely young woman who provides balance for Will’s pragmatism. With Sandra, she supports and helps guide Will’s journey toward reconciliation with his father. This supporting female role requires a strong actor-singer. Karl- (A2-D3) a giant, one of Edward’s fantasy friends. This supporting role requires an actor who is 6’4” or over. Through Edward’s friendship, he grows from being a ‘beastly’ outcast to a highly successful businessman. This supporting role requires an actor who acts, sings, has an appreciation for comic irony, stilt walks, and dances. This actor will be asked to perform on drywall stilts. Amos Calloway- (C2-F4) a werewolf, another of Edward’s fantasy friends. Masquerading as a ringmaster of a brokendown circus, he begins as Edward’s tormentor but then, through Edward’s acceptance, he accepts himself and becomes highly successful. This supporting role requires an actor-comic who acts, sings, and moves well. Don Price- (C3-F#4) Edward’s childhood frenemy, an early buddy, bully and rival for Sandra’s hand. This is a supporting roles requires a strong actor with a comic sensibility, a good singer and has movement skills. The Witch- (F3-F5) the earliest and most fantastic of Edward’s "imaginary" acquaintances who shows him how he’ll die. This supporting role requires a strong, sexy singer-dancer with commanding acting skills. Jenny Hill- (G3-E5) the other woman, one of Edward’s early childhood friends who he forgets but then who later becomes the recipient of his kindness. This supporting role also requires a good actress, singer, and mover who ages from 18 to 60+. Zachy Price- (A3-Gb4) Don's comedic younger brother Dr. Bennett- Non singing role. Edward’s physician, the experienced and wise country doctor, Edward’s contemporary. Young Will/Will's Son- (B3-C5) 10 year old Will Bloom and Will's son in the show's finale. Mayor- Speaking Role Fisherman- Speaking Role The Alabama Lambs- Two of Sandra's friends who audition with her for hte Calloway Circus. The Kent State Trumbull Theatre is announcing auditions for its season opener, John Osborne's "Look Back in Anger." For Jimmy Porter, there is nothing more criminal than the lack of emotion and enthusiasm he sees evident in his generation, especially in his well-born wife, Alison, and their roommate Cliff, who have grown addicted to Jimmy’s passion and rage. But when Alison’s childhood friend Helena visits, she exposes the unsustainable madness of their relationships and living situation, forcing Alison to decide whether to leave the most exciting and dangerous man she’s ever known. Still as shocking and relevant as when it first premiered in post-war London, Look Back in Anger is a sharply funny, fiercely honest exploration of political disillusionment and basic human yearning. When a brutish rhinoceros storms through their quiet neighborhood, the townsfolk are alarmed, but gradually become supporters of rhino-ism and one by one begin to turn into rhinoceroses themselves. Will the few hold-outs be able to resist the rhino’s despicable impulses, or become part of the mindless herd? A classic absurdist comedy that is a parable that remains universal and particularly timely today.
