One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest tells the story of institutional madness where obedience and conformity are the only acceptable indications of good mental health. Randle Patrick McMurphy, a charming rogue, instantly questions the asylum's procedures. He begins to rally his fellow patients in increasingly greater acts of Independence. When these acts are not tolerated, McMurphy learns the authorities and Nurse Ratched have terrible ways of enabling conformity. Mighty Goliath Productions is celebrating their 59th season with BIG FISH! The proceeds from our annual production will be donated to the performing arts programs of the Avon Lake city schools. Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, Big Fish centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest… and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him – most of all, his devoted wife Sandra. But their son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales. Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft, Big Fish is an extraordinary new Broadway musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre – for an experience that’s richer, funnier and BIGGER than life itself. Our process is very unique in that the whole cast rehearses just once per week on Friday evenings from 7-10 pm. For this production some principles will also rehearse on Monday evenings. Rehearsals will begin October 27th. The production runs February 9-17 at the Daniel B. Ross Performing Arts Center in Avon Lake. WHAT: BIG FISH Directed by Douglas F. WHERE: St. Joseph Parish of Avon Lake 32946 Electric Avenue Avon Lake, OH Enter through the Parish Center door, it is on the West end of the parking lot with a blue awning. The awning reads "Credit Union and Parish Center" The gym is straight down the hall and on the right. WHAT TO PREPARE: A 32 bar contemporary musical theatre piece. An accompanist will be provided. Beyond auditioning, you may participate in an MGP show by simply attending our first rehearsal. In addition we will also need musicians for our Pit Orchestra and stage crew. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN In addition to the named characters, MGP is seeking a number of talented dancers (particularly with tap experiences) of all ages. As well as anyone with special skills that may be found in a circus such as juggling, tumbling, acrobatics, magic, etc. Edward Bloom- (G2-A4) originally play by Norbert Leo Butz, a loving husband and father who leads a complex imaginary life with many fantasy friends; requires a singer, dancer who ages from 18 to 60+; a huge heart, a great sense of humor and a vivid imagination Will Bloom- (C#3-D4) approximately 30 years old. Edward’s son, a realist and a pragmatist; and the polar opposite of Edward. His journey of reconciliation with his father is the story of the musical. This is the second male lead and requires a strong actor who sings beautifully. Sandra Bloom- (G3-E5) Edward’s wife, a loving wife who completely understands her husband and who seeks and believes in the possibility of reconciliation between her husband and son. This is the leading female role that requires an actor who ages from 18 to 60+ and who is both a strong actress and singer – and very good mover. Josephine Bloom- (G3-Db5) Will’s wife, a lovely young woman who provides balance for Will’s pragmatism. With Sandra, she supports and helps guide Will’s journey toward reconciliation with his father. This supporting female role requires a strong actor-singer. Karl- (A2-D3) a giant, one of Edward’s fantasy friends. This supporting role requires an actor who is 6’4” or over. Through Edward’s friendship, he grows from being a ‘beastly’ outcast to a highly successful businessman. This supporting role requires an actor who acts, sings, has an appreciation for comic irony, stilt walks, and dances. This actor will be asked to perform on drywall stilts. Amos Calloway- (C2-F4) a werewolf, another of Edward’s fantasy friends. Masquerading as a ringmaster of a brokendown circus, he begins as Edward’s tormentor but then, through Edward’s acceptance, he accepts himself and becomes highly successful. This supporting role requires an actor-comic who acts, sings, and moves well. Don Price- (C3-F#4) Edward’s childhood frenemy, an early buddy, bully and rival for Sandra’s hand. This is a supporting roles requires a strong actor with a comic sensibility, a good singer and has movement skills. The Witch- (F3-F5) the earliest and most fantastic of Edward’s "imaginary" acquaintances who shows him how he’ll die. This supporting role requires a strong, sexy singer-dancer with commanding acting skills. Jenny Hill- (G3-E5) the other woman, one of Edward’s early childhood friends who he forgets but then who later becomes the recipient of his kindness. This supporting role also requires a good actress, singer, and mover who ages from 18 to 60+. Zachy Price- (A3-Gb4) Don's comedic younger brother Dr. Bennett- Non singing role. Edward’s physician, the experienced and wise country doctor, Edward’s contemporary. Young Will/Will's Son- (B3-C5) 10 year old Will Bloom and Will's son in the show's finale. Join Cuyahoga Falls Community Chorus!

---------------------------------------------------------------- Cuyahoga Falls Community Chorus is recruiting! ---------------------------------------------------------------- And Monday, September 12, is the first day of rehearsals! The group is free and open to all talent and age levels. New members should come prepared to sightread with the conductor at 6:30 pm on Monday, September 11, at Summit Christian School, 2800 13th St, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223. Rehearsal starts immediately after at 7:00 pm. The Cuyahoga Falls Community Chorus provides an opportunity for singers of all ages to enjoy the fun and fellowship of singing together in a friendly, family like environment. Additionally, the Chorus serves the community by offering performances in retirement and nursing homes; public libraries; and for civic events and organizations as well as churches throughout the region. The Chorus typically performs a holiday program (with rehearsals beginning in the fall) and a spring program (with rehearsals beginning in January) consisting of music ranging from pop and show tunes to light classical and sacred works. The Chorus meets once a week for rehearsals every Monday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A performance calendar will be set as reservations are secured throughout the rehearsal schedule.
