Set in a hospital, "It Runs in the Family" contains the usual assortment of farcical nuts running in & out of doors, mistaking everybody for someone else. Dr. Mortimer tries to fend off a paternity suit, his wife, a punkish daughter & various other lunatics so that he may, at last, deliver the Ponsonby Lecture in an international conference. This is farce at its best as the situation spins hilariously out of control in typical Ray Cooney fashion. One character after another is bounding through doors that swing or slam in the doctor's lounge at St. Andrews Hospital & some are even crawling along the snowy ledge outside. What exactly is The Manhattan Project - Cleveland Lab? The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects. Audition Notice for All-City Musical JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR AUDITIONS - FEB. 26 & 27, 2018 - 6:30pm - 10:00PM AKRON, Ohio (December 4, 2017) - Auditions for the All-City Musical, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, will be at the Akron Civic on Monday, February 26, 2018 and Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM. Call backs will be on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 7:00 - 10:00 PM. Jesus Christ Superstar is a rock opera based on the last week of Jesus' life. Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lyrics by Tim Rice. This year's musical will be directed by Connor Bogart O'Brien, musical director, Sharon Dobbins Alberson and choreographer, Brian Murphy. All performers should prepare a Broadway-style song of at least 32 bars. A movement audition will be held as part of callbacks. A chat with ‘Love Letters’’ Dorothy Silver, George Roth and Mark Corcoran Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics A production of A.R. Gurney’s simple yet startlingly poignant “Love Letters” requires just a table, two chairs and a pair of actors reading from letters their characters have exchanged over a long lifetime. The play is one of those rare and wonderful works whose tenderness, richness and running thread of longing and regret needs no embellishment from scenic designers. It does, however, require some fine acting and an audience that can recall with fondness the quaint ritual of handwritten personal correspondence now lost in an era of phone texts and tweets. Though the production is open to the general public, its core audience conveniently resides within the senior living community of Judson Manor, where Theatre in the Circle’s managing director Mark Corcoran and artistic director Bill Corcoran stage their shows. The fine acting comes courtesy of stellar Cleveland performers Dorothy Silver and George Roth, who portray Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. The Cleveland Jewish News interrupted an early read-through of this play and caught up with the actors and director Mark Corcoran.
