CONVERGENCE-CONTINUUM, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE NORTHEAST OHIO MASTER OF FINE ARTS IN CREATIVE WRITING, PRESENTS THE 2018 NEOMFA PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL, FEBRUARY 8 - 17 Convergence-continuum presents four world-premiere plays by local graduate-student playwrights at the _2018_ _NEOMFA PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL__. _The Festival features two full-length plays and two ten-minute world-premiere plays. These plays are part of a three-year intensive program of study under playwright and Cleveland State University professor Mike Geither, and are co-produced by convergence-continuum and the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts (NEOMFA) in Creative Writing consortium. This will be the seventh year convergence-continuum has mounted the Festival. FEB 8, 9, 10, THURS-SAT AT 8 PM: _SEXLESS IN SEATTLE,__ _a ten-minute comedy by Jonathan Wlodarski, is a lonely, lovelorn romp in a Seattle apartment. Directed by Clyde Simon. _MURDER AT THE PALACE_ _THEATER__, _a two-act play by Robert M.K. Daniels, a comic, vaudeville murder mystery, is a satiric look at what people will go through for their art, and the cost of being famous. There are two sides to every coin; good and bad, light and dark, art and fame. And sometimes the price of fame can be murder. Directed by David Munnell. FEB 15, 16, 17, THURS-SAT AT 8 PM: _RENDEZVOUS POINT__, _ by Adam Rounick, is a ten-minute play about three professional criminals carrying out an elaborate heist. The only hitch is that two of them don’t know the plan. Through playful back-and-forth banter and tangential diatribes, the clueless crooks race against the clock to salvage the scheme. Directed by Scott Zolkowski. _CONTRADICTIONARY LIES_, by Katie Wallace, is part dark comedy, part docudrama two-act play, and follows failed rocker Jimbo and his estranged wife Kelly as they sort through the remnants of their failed marriage. As nostalgia kicks up old emotions, Jimbo is visited by his guardian angel in the form of his idol, Kurt Cobain. Directed by Beau Reinker. _The 2018 NEOMFA Playwrights Festival _opens Thursday, Feb. 8 and runs Thurs, Fri and Sat at 8 p.m. through Feb. 17 at the LIMINIS THEATER, 2438 SCRANTON RD., CLEVELAND, OH 44113 in the historic Tremont neighborhood. Rehearsal and performance accompanist needed for Cinderella in North Ridgeville. This is at North Ridgeville Education Center <https://www.google.com/maps/place/North+Ridgeville+Education+Center/@41.407…> for the HS theater dept. This could be a perfect gig for a college student or post grad. I'll try to keep accompanist time requirements as light as possible. Ask me about pay if the dates work. During February and March Time requirements will be very negotiable. Music rehearsals will be the following dates Feb - 7, 12, 15, 22, 23, 26 - all 4-6pm March - 1, 5, 8, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26, 29 - all 4-6pm April - 9, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. Pit shows up on the 16th when we start running the show. I'm pretty sure at this point rehearsals start at 7. April Rehearsals really need an accompanist though a few conflicts are probably workable. April 23, 24, 25 is Tech week. Starts at 8. April 26, 27, 28 show nights. call is 5. April 29 Show call noon. I'm new to North Ridgeville this year and am the music director for this musical. Really looking to make a splash. The Director, Sharon, seems like a lot of fun and there is an abnormally high number of talented musicians, actors, and dancers in this cast. I am very much looking forward to watching this show come together. ABOUT THE SHOW In 15th century Paris, Notre Dame Cathedral stands in the heart of the city, a fortress of self-proclaimed righteousness and moral authority. Its citizens move through the streets together but separate: soldiers, gypsies, priests and beggars. The rich and the poor. Predatory and proud. They will do anything to survive. Quasimodo, the hunchbacked son of the bishop's brother, rings the church bell and longs to live "out there". At the annual Feast of Fools, these worlds come together in a frenzy of drink and debauchery and elect Quasimodo the "King of Fools", igniting a cataclysmic descent into a street war of forbidden love, betrayal and religious hypocrisy. Hateful torches are raised. The gypsy and the fool are in a stand-off with all of Paris. There is sanctuary for no one as true goodness and evil are exposed and the fury reaches an apocalyptic boiling point. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is the only stage collaboration from two masters of the American musical theatre, composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. This brand new production is high theatre, boldly told through stunning choral music and sublime orchestral power. Songs include "Out There", "Top of the World", and "God Help the Outcasts." Music By Alan Menken Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz Book by Peter Parnell CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS Quasimodo- The deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame and Claude Frollo's charge. Lonely and staunchly obedient to Frollo, he possesses a vivid imagination that brings to life the bells and gargoyles of the cathedral. Despite his shyness and uncertainty, he quickly befriends Esmeralda. Big-hearted, and brave when need be. Claude Frollo- Archdeacon of Notre Dame Cathedral and the most powerful cleric in Paris, he is the reluctant caretaker of Quasimodo. He will do whatever it takes to rid the city of the gypsy "vermin," even as he lusts after Esmeralda. Calculating, manipulative, and obsessive. Esmeralda- A beautiful and free-spirited gypsy who possesses the strong sense of justice and morality that Frollo lacks. Compassionate, she frees Quasimodo from the frenzied mob at the Feast of Fools and, against her better judgment, falls for the cocky Phoebus. Captain Phoebus de Martin- Returning to Paris after serving in the war, Phoebus takes up his new position as Captain of the Cathedral Guard. Overconfident yet charming, this handsome, strong soldier makes the ladies swoon, yet his moral compass is also strong, and he openly defies the corrupted Frollo. Clopin Trouillefou- The clever and charismatic King of the Gypsies. An air of mystery surrounds Clopin, who often leaves the scene in a puff of smoke. As the master of ceremonies for the Feast of Fools, he is witty and playful, but he boasts a darker, serious nature when not performing for the crowd. Jehan Frollo- Claude's reckless younger brother. With the gypsy Florika, he fathers Quasimodo, who he leaves in his brother's care. Wild, passionate, and strong-willed. Florika- A gypsy and Quasimodo's mother. The Ensemble- Gypsies, gargoyles, soldiers, and citizens of Paris.

(8 weeks) During some classes/workshops, parents are invited to observe a portion of the class or enjoy a brief “performance” at some point. Teachers will give additional details closer to the final day. Our classes this year include: STARDUST 4-7 year olds Saturdays, February 17— April 7 9:30 a.m.— 10:30 a.m. Here’s a fun way for your youngest students to get their start in theatre! This non-stressful approach to basic acting, singing, and movement will teach your littlest stars to twinkle! Students will work on imagination, memorization and teamwork, as well as the technical basics of putting on a show. SHAKESPEARE SHAKE-UP & STAGE COMBAT 10-18 year olds Saturdays, February 17— April 7 10:30 a.m.— 12:00 p.m. Swordplay, wordplay, and a lot of fun—all the ingredients for a total Shakespeare Shake-Up! In this introduction to the life and works of the master himself, students will get a glimpse into the days of William Shakespeare and his influence on theatre today. Students will interpret text, act out words and learn the basics of safe and realistic stage combat in an imaginative, non-intimidating way! Students will learn: how to punch, slap, choke, kick, fall, tumble, sword fight and most importantly, how to sell the reaction. Students will also learn the basics of swordplay (correct stance, advancement, and more!). Safety guidelines will be emphasized, with parent permission slips. Previous acting experience strongly recommended. INTRO TO THEATRE *One-day Workshop* 8-16 year olds Saturday, March 3 10:30 a.m.— 1:30 p.m. This one day, three-hour workshop is designed for students who are interested in the arts but may not have time for our regular classes. This workshop includes theatre/acting basics, short scenes, a back-stage tour featuring costumes and props, brief theatre history/terms, and much more! This stress-free introduction to the theatre world is perfect for all ability levels. Students must have basic reading skills for this class. AWESOME ACTING and AUDITIONS *Two-day Workshop* 8-16 year olds Saturdays, March 10 and 24 9:30 a.m.— 12:30 p.m. Do you want to be more comfortable on stage? Does the mere thought of going to an audition seem scary too? You are not the only one! During this two-day workshop, students will be instructed in improvisation, character work, and basic acting techniques. Students will be given scripts, cold readings and monologues. They will also learn how to prepare an audition in this fun, relaxing, stress-free class. There will be a mock audition included in this class (on Mar. 24) . Bring any materials you have been working on and we will send home materials as well! Students must have basic reading skills for this class. All ability levels welcome, no previous experience needed.
