COMPANY AUDITION WITH THE MOVEMENT PROJECT DEC 15th, 2018 Location: Gund Dance Studio (The Idea Center), 1375 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland Ohio 44115 Time: 1:15-2:30PM Parking: Lot & meter parking located around building What to bring to the audition: Bring resume, bio and headshot. Position: The Movement Project is seeking well-rounded dancers with a wide-range of skill sets, including a strong background in modern/contemporary, ballet, composition and pedagogy. TMP company members responsibilities include (but are not limited to) rehearsals, technique classes, performances, composition, teaching, outreach engagements and weekly administrative duties/roles. Contract: 10 - month contract (1-year agreement) with hourly wage, performance stipend, outreach stipend, and company class. The Movement Project rehearses Mondays & Wednesdays 9:30 - 3:00pm and Fridays 9:30 - 11:00am. Additional outreach opportunities, arts events and performances scheduled throughout the season. TEACHING ARTISTS & CLASS DESCRIPTIONModern (Grace Nicklos) This class will dive into the body’s natural pathways and rhythms. We will move through release as well as float, finding our connection to ground and space. Striving to find our movements' true weight with phrase work that will challenge our mind and body to connect and flux. Modern Lifts & Weight Sharing (Rebecca Leuszler & Irene Honora) This class will focus on the foundation of lifts and weight sharing used in Modern Dance and Contact Improvisation. Through the teachings of balancing, negotiating, and shifting weight, participants will create lifts in various group settings and explore non-traditional negotiation patterns. Yoga (Elyse Morckel) Yoga builds strength, stamina, and flexibility. Class will incorporate Vinyasa (flowing movement sequences) with slow, sustained stretches, refinement of alignment in held poses, as well as breath awareness and mental focus. Improvisation (Megan Gargano) Improvisation is an exploration of choreographic concepts used to develop unique and innovative movement vocabularies in real-time. Come and listen, dance, socialize. 8 - 9 pm Beginner-friendly Jitterbug dance lesson with instructors from Get Hep Swing 9 pm - 12 am Live music provided by Moustache Yourself featuring vocalist Jen Maurer. Moustache Yourself creatively renders the French Gypsy style music of famous guitarist Django Reinhardt. It's groovy, moody, and swingin'! WHERE - The Lakewood Masonic Temple is located at 15300 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio. There is a large parking lot behind the building. Enter through the front doors. WHEN - Dance lesson from 8 - 9 pm Live and DJ music from 9 pm - 12am THE BAND - Moustache Yourself featuring vocalist Jen Maurer ATTIRE - Wear what makes you feel good! You do not need to bring a dance partner but you may be dancing with lots of different people during the lesson and while the band plays, if you like. If you want to only dance with the person you bring with you, that is fine too. You do not need previous dance experience. We do hope you bring a positive and open mind and attitude. Get Hep Swing is lead by owner, founder, and multi-year national and international swing dance champion, Valerie Salstrom. We love spreading the gospel of swing dancing and we are excited to share the language and culture of this truly American, urban folk dance form with you. It is important for us to let you know that this dance style started in the African-American ballrooms of Harlem, New York in the late 1920s/early 1930s. This dance has a gritty earthiness that is incredibly empowering and joyful. We can't wait for you to experience this conversation of dance with us. We make learning to partner dance easy and enjoyable. Please join us the second Friday of every month at the Lakewood Masonic Temple and the last Saturday of every month at The Lithuanian Club. Casting roles for 8-10 men, 8-10 women, and 1 girl (age 10-15) "Sunday in the Park with George" is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Auditions are open to everyone and are held at the Ashtabula Arts Center. You do not need prior theater experience to try out for a show. If you are not cast in an on-stage role, please consider volunteering on the backstage crew - an essential part of every show's production team.
