Weathervane Playhouse to host a Valentine's Cabaret and Season Announcement Enjoy some love songs and hear about what we have planned for the 2018-19 Season AKRON - Weathervane Playhouse will be hosting a Valentine's Cabaret and 2018-19 Season Announcement event on Friday, February 16, 2018. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the Cabaret starts at 7:30 p.m. Come feel the love at Weathervane, and be the first to hear about our upcoming season! Bring that special someone down to Weathervane Playhouse this Valentine's season to enjoy a night of fun and entertainment full of love and romance! While you're at it, be the first to learn all about the exciting new slate of shows Weathervane will be producing in its upcoming 2018-19 Season! The evening's entertainment will be provided by a mix of Weathervane favorites and newcomers performing such songs as Love is My Legs, Forget About the Boy, So Big, So Small, No One Else, and many more! Admission to the Cabaret is FREE! Specialty Cocktails will be on sale for the event, and our cash bar will be open with $5 drink specials all night while you take in some lovely performances from a variety of artists - cabaret-style! Native Houstonian, Lauren Anderson danced with Houston Ballet from 1983 to 2006, performing leading roles in all the great classical ballets, appearing across the world to critical acclaim audience, and in the process, becoming one of Houston Ballet’s most beloved stars.� She trained exclusively at Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy from the age of seven. She joined Houston Ballet in 1983 as a Corps de Ballet, 1987 was promoted to Soloist and in 1990 became the first African-American to be promoted to principal dancer at Houston Ballet. She is also one of the few African-American ballerinas at the head of a major ballet company anywhere in the world. In January 2007, Ms. Anderson assumed her new role of in Houston Ballet’s Education and Community Engagement program where she conducts master classes at area schools, and lectures to students on dance and her historic career as one of America’s most distinguished African-American ballerinas. The Producers Synopsis: Written by comedy master Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (who wrote the book for Annie), The Producers is truly a "boffo" hit, winning a record twelve Tony Awards (including best musical) and wowing capacity crowds night after night on Broadway and on tour. Max Bialystock, the one-time king of Broadway producers, is hungry to strike it rich, and Leo Bloom, an accountant with dreams of someday becoming a theatre producer, discover that it could be more lucrative to produce a Broadway flop instead of a huge hit. They begin by combining a truly atrocious script with horrendous directors and talentless actors. However, when their new production, "Springtime for Hitler," turns out to be a smashing success, the plan is thrown off and the partners' lives are thrown into chaos. The Producers will have audiences roaring at the ridiculous accents, caricatures of all kinds, and show business inside jokes. When combined with 16 witty songs and outrageous dance numbers, this is sure to be a night of memorable entertainment! Characters: (The roles listed below are from the script. In a crowd, it would be impossible to miss him. Age: 50-60. (Range G4 - G32) * Carmen Ghia: Roger Debris' faithful assistant. He is severe in looks and in passion for Roger. LCCC’s Stocker Arts Center Hosts Helen Welch “Superstar: Celebrating the Music of the Carpenters” Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Arts Center presents Helen Welch – “Superstar: Celebrating the Music of the Carpenters” on Saturday, March 3 at 7 p.m. at the Hoke Theatre of Stocker Arts Center. Broadway vocalist and Grammy nominee Welch celebrates the magic and music of the Carpenters. The show highlights all of the songs Karen Carpenter fans know and love, along with some fascinating stories about the brother/sister duo.
