It's the story of two bachelors, John 'Jack' Worthing and Algernon 'Algy' Moncrieff, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape their tiresome lives. They attempt to win the hearts of two women who, conveniently, claim to only love men called Ernest. The pair struggle to keep up with their own stories and become tangled in a tale of deception, disguise and misadventure. North Canton Playhouse announces auditions for the summer production "Thoroughly Modern Millie" For ages 14-21 "Forget about the boy when a small town girl searches for a new life in the bright lights of 1920s New York City." Director/Choreographer: Sarah Jane Toy Producer: Delorna Toy Musical Director: Sandy Wallace When: Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5th from 6:30-9:30 Callback will be held Sunday, May 6th from 5-8 Where: North Canton Playhouse 525 7th St. NE North Canton, OH 44720 Please prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre song that best shows your range. Gender: Female Miss Dorothy Brown A naive, wealthy girl who has moved to New York to change her lifestyle. She becomes Millie's roommate and confidant. Gender: Female Ching Ho A Chinese immigrant working to bring his mother to the United States. Younger brother of Bun Foo and henchman to Mrs. Meers. Sings and speaks in chinese. Gender: Male Bun Foo A Chinese immigrant working to bring his mother to the United States. Older brother of Ching Ho and henchman to Mrs. Meers. Sings and speaks in chinese. Gender: Male Miss Flannery An uptight, stern office manager. She runs the stenographer pool at Sincere Trust Insurance Company. Gender: Female Trevor Graydon An executive at the Sincere Trust Insurance Company. He is sharp, ambitious, and secretly romantic. Gender: Male Muzzy Van Hossmere A glamorous actress and singer at a night club. She becomes Millie's friend and mentor. Gender: Female *It is the authors' preference that, for thematic reasons, the role of Muzzy be played by an actress of color as an African-American character. Traditionally show business was one of the only ways an African American could circumvent the worst of racism and embark on the same kind of self-reinvention that Millie is attempting -- and, in 1922, there were limited avenues for that trajectory available to African-Americans. CONVERGENCE-CONTINUUM AUDITIONS SATURDAY, MAY 19TH, 2-4 pm for _THE CASUAL TREE WARD _ BY ROBERT HAWKES DIRECTED BY SUSAN SOLTIS at the Liminis Theater, 2438 Scranton Rd, Cleveland 44113 in the historic Tremont neighborhood WORLD PREMIERE! The goddess FREYJA (or is she?) is tending Yggdrasil, the World Ash Thee (or is it?), trying to protect it from increasing drought. An itinerant WATER-BEARER tries to persuade Freyja to go with him to where water is plentiful. She refuses. Does the world really depend on this single tree, or is this a self-generating myth? All is made clear (or is it?) when ODIN, the One-Eyed God (or is he?) shows up to resolve all questions and save us all (or can he?). ROLES FOR TWO MEN, ONE WOMAN. (See description in paragraph above.) All three roles are available. Ages flexible. The play will open Friday, August 24th and run Thu-Sat through September 15th (11 performances) at convergence-continuum’s Liminis Theater. Rehearsals will begin in mid-July. Actors will be paid a stipend for their participation. (No Equity contracts are available for this production.) Please prepare a pair of contrasting monologues not to exceed three minutes in combined time. You may be asked also to read from the script. If you are new to convergence-continuum, or think you might be unfamiliar to Robert Hawkes (playwright will be present), please bring headshot and résumé. Not only is it the second time around for this script at Workshop Players, it is also the second time around for senior citizens Samuel Jonas and Laura Curtis, a widower and a widow who strike up a love affair. The potential loss of social security benefits make living in sin more attractive than tying the knot; that is until their grown children become involved. The erstwhile couple’s offspring are not free of neuroses themselves, shown clearly as they raise their objections to what they perceive to be their parents’ precarious situation. Laughs will abound as this comedy unfolds.
