*As you might know, Cleveland Dance Fest is November 8th and 9th and will be featuring 35 choreographers in 2 evening performances, an emerging works concert, a youth showcase, and a day of master classes for youth and professional/college dancers. We have some exciting master class artists teaching at the festival on Saturday, November 9th!* Taylor Knight & Anna Thompson of slowdanger will be presenting physical integration, a class that will integrate somatics practices, Laban Movement analysis & more into an exploration of the mind/body connection. Kora Radella (Kenyon College) will present a momentum based floor work practiced rooted in release techniques and will explore the idea of riding the edge of control. Gina Hoch-Stall’s (MFA Ohio State University) class will invite dancers to have a more in depth conversation with their bodies through play, sweat, experiment & fly (with and away) from gravity. Contact improvisation with Kelly Hurlburt & Josh Ramsey Hines directors of Seabus Dance Company, will focus on the tone of the body, how dancer’s give/share/pour weight into one another, ride momentum and other ways to move with contact. Tonight this internationally known trio of musicians-Terry Donahue, Roger Miller, Ken Winokur-perform their signature score, lending their distinctive mix of clarinet, accordion, electronics, and junk metal percussion to Fritz Lang's visionary sci-fi spectacle. It's been six years since the Alloy performed in Cleveland, and tonight marks the band's first appearance in our new Peter B. Lewis Theater. CASTING CALL: Akron Soul Train Artist in Residence for October is casting a short dramatic film to be shot in late October early November in Akron. The film concerns not feeling connected to the world and loneliness and will be a one day shoot on a bus. The Director is looking for numerous actors of varying ages, ethnicities and backgrounds to be a part of this project. We’d like to see more nonwhite and over 40 years in age actors audition. Unpaid, Non-union, copy, credit and on set meals will be provided. The film will premiere later this year in Akron. Newly divorced 38-year-old Elizabeth, an urban planner, moves to New York City for a fresh start. She meets her friends Kate, a kindergarten teacher, and Lucas, a community organizer, in Madison Square Park. Kate suggests that Elizabeth start using the name "Liz" and seek out new experiences. Lucas suggests that she go back to her college nickname, "Beth," and start making professional connections in the city. The musical then shows both possibilities playing out. "Liz" stays in the park with Kate while "Beth" leaves with Lucas, and the remainder of the show depicts two paths that Elizabeth's life could take. ("Prologue/What If") Got it? I bet not. Wonderful music and a confusing if not great book.
