Cleveland Pops seeks top teen talent Cleveland, OH - October 11, 2019: The Cleveland POPS Orchestra announces the twenty-first annual competition for its Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship. This year's competition will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Room 217 at The Cleveland Institute of Music, 11021 East Boulevard, Cleveland, Ohio 44106. The scholarship is designed to give recognition and encouragement to musically gifted teens through the opportunity to perform on stage with The Cleveland Pops Orchestra and receive a cash award to be applied to their continuing studies. Entry is open to all youth up to age 18 residing and attending high school or home schooling in the seven-county Greater Cleveland region. Contestants can be singers, dancers or instrumentalists. They must be prepared to perform a full-length musical selection from memory. Choice of selection may be drawn from standard popular music repertoire, including songs, dances or instrumental solos found in Broadway musicals, big band arrangements, jazz or light classics. The grand prize winner of the competition will perform with The Cleveland Pops Orchestra at one of their regularly scheduled concerts at Severance Hall or Playhouse Square. *Audition Notice* Cleveland Play House Theatre Academy is holding auditions for a production of *Getting Near to Baby* by Y York. *Synopsis:* Twelve-year-old Willa Jo Dean and 7-year-old Little Sister Dean are reeling from the death of their baby sister, Baby. Little Sister's torment is so profound that she has stopped talking. The girls have come to stay with Aunt Patty so that their mom can recover, but Aunt Patty is unused to the messy human ways of little girls and finds Little Sister's silence intolerable. Aunt Patty's rules and regulations finally drive the sisters to the roof, where they hope to escape her laws while at the same time getting nearer to their departed baby sister. Auditions will be held at our Education & Administrative Offices at 1901 East 13th St., Cleveland, OH.
