Cleveland Public Theatre announces FREE theatre training for young artists who are in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Cleveland Act Now Academy at Cleveland Public Theatre Fall Session - 7 week long audition-based youth theatre program * Auditions take place in October * Classes take place Nov 5th to Dec 17th * Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:45pm WHO * 6th, 7th and 8th graders WHAT * Taught by Cleveland Act Now (CAN) Academy Lead Teachers, Faye Hargate and Zyrece Montgomery, the fall session will explore acting fundamentals and ensemble theatre techniques with special attention on building improvisation skills and creating original performance material. College Pre-Screen Audition Coaching with Dan Hendrock

Pre-screen auditions and final auditions are just around the corner. How prepared are you? Do you know who you’re singing to? Why you’re singing to them? Where are you? What happened right before? Many of you may be freaking out and don’t feel prepared, etc. Don’t worry, I’m here to help. I’ve been coaching, directing, acting, and teaching professionally for the past 15 years in NYC, Chicago and Cleveland. I have a proven track record and high success rate of getting students into the best colleges, landing the role they’ve been preparing to audition for, and gaining confidence in their own process and ability. This process will include pre-screen and final audition etiquette, identifying given circumstances, i.e. who are you singing to? Why are you singing? What do you want? Etc. We will be identifying and solidifying a solid pre beat for each of your songs, the “moment before,” what provides the transition from the student into the character? We will be making character adjustments, both physical and psychological, when required, employing the techniques of Stanislavski, Michael Chekhov, Kristen Linklater, Meisner, Grotowski, to name a few. The goal will be to provide a way of working that is individual and specific to each student. In short, they will learn a process that works for them, so that they may apply the process to future roles and auditions by themselves. I’d love to help you fine tune your pieces so that you feel confident and comfortable for your auditions. Don’t let yourself get in your own way. A little bit about me: Dan Hendrock is a professional actor, director and teaching artist. He has been professionally directing and acting in Cleveland, NYC and Chicago for the past fifteen years. Dan got his MFA in Acting from the Cleveland Play House/Case Western Reserve University graduate acting program and is a proud member of AEA. He is currently the Director of Theatre at Hathaway Brown School and works as the Head of Acting at Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute. Dan also holds his teaching certificate in the Michael Chekhov Technique from the Great Lakes Michael Chekhov Consortium. His performing credits include many television and commercial appearances, regional theatres, national tours and Off-Broadway. Dakota is a student film director who's unable to properly express themselves in his relationship. They are somewhat of an introvert, but not socially awkward. They feel passionate about their artistry as a vehicle of expression, and as a result, finds it difficult to properly express their emotions outside of the medium. Dakota is in a romantic relationship with Shannon (the other lead role). They have been together for three years and currently share an apartment together. They work together on film projects, as Shannon is a student filmmaker as well. Due to the extensive time that they need to spend around each other, they have largely avoided confronting the issues in their romantic relationship for the benefit of their working relationship. Dakota begins to realize that their relationship is at a breaking point, and must decide to confront these issues head-on or hope that the status quo will improve on its own accord. -Ethnicity: All Ethnicities -Required Media: Headshot/Photo • SHANNON (LEAD): Males & Females, 18-28 Co-Lead (can be played by either Male or Female – the role is written as a female in the script, but can be easily reversed). Shannon is an introvert type who is very dedicated to the craft of filmmaking as a film student and cinematographer on Dakota’s movie. Dakota and Shannon are in a romantic relationship. They have been together for three years and currently share an apartment together. Due to the extensive time that they need to spend around each other, they have largely avoided confronting the issues in their romantic relationship for the benefit of their working relationship. Shannon is becoming distant from Dakota and, as a result, begins to sense conflict brewing between them. Shannon chooses to wait it out to see if things will improve, however, this becomes increasingly difficult as their film production moves forward. -Ethnicity: All Ethnicities -Required Media: Headshot/Photo • JOSEPH (SUPPORTING): Males & Females, 18-27 Supporting (can be played by either Male or Female – the role is written as male in the script, but this can easily be flipped). Joseph is an actor starring in Dakota's film. The role is based on Dakota's likeness. Joseph is a passionate, dedicated worker and seemingly has his life put well-together. Anna is an actor starring in Dakota’s film. The role that Anna is playing is somewhat based on Shannon's likeness. Anna is a dedicated actor who expresses sincere empathy for others. She is able to reason with people, saying the things that she feels they need to hear. IRWIN & ARIEL in CONCERT SUNDAY October 13 4:00 p.m. Old South Church UCC 9802 Chillicothe Rd., Kirtland free-will offering An engaging program of music for organ, piano and violin by Brahms, Beethoven, Chopin and Bach. IRWIN SHUNG received his DMA in Piano Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where he now serves on the faculty. Awards received include the Pauline Favin Memorial Award from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, prizes in the 2012 Darius Milhaud Competition, as well as the Young Artist International Piano Competition. Dr. Shung, whose playing has been praised by State Magazine for its “ease, technique, and musicianship,” has performed in North America, Europe, and Asia. He was recently appointed to the music department at Notre Dame College and also directs the Resonance Masters’ Series at the new "Resonance" performance hall, at SOMA, in Bellevue, Washington. ARIEL CLAYTON KARAS Violinist Ariel Clayton Karas has been featured on broadcasts for Cleveland’s WCLV and NPR stations, and her music was featured in the 2016 documentary "Violins of Hope", narrated by Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody. As an orchestral musician, she recently served as concertmaster alongside the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, and as concertmaster for the orchestra accompanying Michael Buble’s 2019 arena show in Detroit. Ms. Clayton Karas enjoys a multi-faceted career as a performer, educator, collaborator, and contractor, and recently completed her 2018 tenure as Gordon Square Arts District’s first Musician In Residence. She performs for and manages 200+ events annually as founder of Cleveland-based ensemble OPUS 216, and as director of Classical Revolution Cleveland. Screen Actors Needed for Student Filmmakers' Audition

(corrected ad from 2 days ago) Audition for: Students' Film and Video Productions Casting Call held: Friday, Oct 25, from 9:15am to 12:30pm Where: Tri-C Campus, 11000 W Pleasant Valley Rd, Parma, OH 44130 An AUDITION (open to all) for film students' projects at Cuyahoga Comm. College (all to be shot in October and November). The student teams will make various short projects (see below). There are 3-4 different teams, so we need several actors. You can try out for one of these below, or ALL projects: -- “DOCUMENTARY INTERVIEW”: for documentary style INTERVIEW, you (ACTOR or ARTIST of any kind) will be interviewed about your work and career (the questions will be submitted in advance to those who are selected at the audition). If interested to be interviewed, you must attend our audition and introduce yourself and your creative work. An interview-shooting day is in late October or early November. Later, you can use this video for your personal sites and publicity. -- “DRAMATIC MONOLOGUE”: for this project, selected actors will prepare dramatic monologue or performance. Prepare a 1-2 minutes monologue (must be original written content or public domain story) and attend our audition. Those who are selected will be informed the same day, and the shooting day is within 2 weeks of audition -- SHORT FILM or MUSIC VIDEO: you will audition for a LEAD ROLE in student-produced films or music videos. At the audition, you will read from our scripts (cold read), and you can also prepare a very short monologue. If you’re a recording artist, feel free to perform your song. The short film or music video shoots are scheduled for mid-November. __________________________________ These projects will be produced by Cuyahoga Community College's beginner level film students (an "Intro to Filmmaking" class). Several students who completed this course in previous years – are now proud graduates of Tri-C, and newly established Cleveland film artists, videographers, and crew members on big union films shot in Ohio! They all started in this class. WHERE: Tri-C Campus in Parma, Ohio (park in "visitor"; walk to central campus area); If lost, ask police officers in hallways to show you G107 room. WHO SHOULD COME: This type of collaboration is perfect for beginner (or intermediate) level actors who need more footage for their first demo-reel. By having a Demo Reel, you will be able to seek industry representation (agent). ABOUT PROJECTS: each of these projects give you a lot of screen time and dialogue or monologue lines. They are all LEAD roles. These are unpaid (collaboration) gigs. Get your first credit, your demo footage, and establish new relationships with like-minded content creators. Also, if you have NO screen acting experience, but you truly BELIEVE that you have what it takes - COME and try out! TIMELINE: These projects are 1-day (half a day) shoots. The work must be fully edited by early December. The videos will be available online when completed and you can ask students for HD download copy.
