Free platforms. Cleveland Play House is getting rid of several large platforms from our production of Into the Breeches. Instead of them ending in the dumpster we are offering them to you. They are 2x6 framed with 2x6 tops (Similar to a deck) they are mostly all 3'11" wide and 8-12' long. Contact Ian Stillman for more details. COLLEGE LIFE Located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS:What’s in the minds and hearts of college students today? In 40 monologues and a few dialogues, this multicultural ensemble questions everything they encounter: social justice and gender identity, self-awareness and relationship boundaries, future prospects and roommate etiquette. What emerges is a humorous and heartbreaking portrait of a new generation struggling with higher education’s promise of “personal transformation.” Structured in three acts, the play begins with matriculation and ends with graduation. The monologues in Act I, titled “Great Expectations,” focus on encounters with new friends, financial aid, antidepressants, homework, sex, sleep deprivation and courses in physics and math. Act II, “Paradise Lost,” features parties, budding and broken relationships, unexpected encounters with race and religion, sexual orientation and hitting rock bottom. Act III, “Metamorphoses,” portrays students emerging from four years of challenge and change with surprising insights, political convictions and plans for a scary, uncertain future. The mixture of serious and comedic monologues captures the extreme difficulty—sometimes absurd and at other times overwhelming—of self-discovery and community-building. While the monologues convey the sense that students often feel alone in their quest for great success or simply survival, the ensemble itself presents a very different truth—at least they’re alone together. WUAL: Seeking Playwrights and Creative Writers for Performance Competition (Please share with your actors, performing artists, students, creative writers) Seeking playwrights / creative writers for special, inspirational “Miracles, Magic and Makeovers” project. Rationale: Watch the local and national news. Read the Internet. The media do not seem to address solutions to problems the community and country continue to face. The media seem to perpetuate and exacerbate society’s negative issues by broadcasting and magnifying society’s “uglies.” There is growing evidence that community members and the general public seem to be tired, agitated and frustrated with the conditions. However, they do not seem to know what to do or how to counteract the negative energies and be able to contribute what they can to effect positive change within themselves, their families and neighborhood. “A Brand New WUAL Day! Miracles, Magic and Makeovers” attempts to provide the higher level non-traditional thinking, principles and practices individuals can use to make such change. Wake Up and Live’s Actors’ Studio (WUAL) is launching its “Miracles, Magic and Makeovers” project and inviting playwrights / creative writers to submit 7 - 10-minute inspirational scenarios to be performed in various venues. Submissions should: 1. Address the Concept: Turn Your Life into One of Joy Health, Wealth and Happiness! (What story is character telling?) 2. Scenarios should have only 1 – 3 characters. 3. Be suitable to be presented on “Wake Up And Live With the Arts” YouTube show and / or on stage, and / or in workshops. 4. Be inspirational and uplifting. 5.
