BROADVIEW HEIGHTS SPOTLIGHTS THEATER PRESENTS THE FROG PRINCESS March 7-15, 2020 “The FrogPrincess” hops to the Broadview Heights Spotlights’stage to enchant young audiences this March. The show by Catherine L. Howard isthis year’s first Theater for Young Audiences (TYA) offering this spring. Roles are reversed in this colorful adaptationof the Russian folk tale. Queen Natasha is tired and wants to turn over thethrone to one of her three sons. But which one? Each of them has some, but notall, of the qualities needed to be a good king, and the queen reveals that thedifference between a good king and a great king is the woman behind the throne.So she sends her sons off to find wives, using an arrow to guide them. Theyoungest son Sasha’s arrow pierces Natalia ... a frog! Though the ladies andgentlemen of the kingdom laugh, Sasha proceeds with the marriage to fulfill hisduty. This is a perfect show for families with young children. Spotlights’ “Theater for Young Audiences” series engages children prior to theshow with additional fun opportunities to learn about the story, and what itmeans to attend a live theater production. The Spotlights’ production is directed byBrenton Cochran, and features a cast including Nicholas DeAngelis, JohnFlanigan IV, Katie Flanigan, Lexi Frendak, MaryBeth Knode, Evan Mortensen, LisaMortensen, Jaclyn Phelps, Sarah Price, Eli Ravenson, David Rusnak, KassieSchill, Jenilee Taylor, and Natalie Zenczak. Other production staff membersinclude Diane Frendak and Sharon Joyce (Co-Producers), Katie Atkinson and JillKenderes (Costumers) and Whitney Cline-Chockreff (Stage Manager). Performance dates are March 7 through March15. *Latitudes Poetry Night* *featuring Jeremy Mark Ritch* *Wednesday, February 19 @ 6pm* *Compass Coffee* *647 E. Market St, Akron, OH 44304* Reading will begin with Open Mic at 6pm, followed by our featured reader at 7pm. *Jeremy Mark Ritch* is a poet, artist, and author from Cleveland, OH. He was written six books and been featured in several publications. Jeremy has been writing poetry for 25 years, beginning as a punk rock poet in the mid-'90s and finally publishing his first full collection of poetry, Sidewalk Stories and other Poems, in 2013. He is an ex-minister, recovering drug addict and alcoholic, and is being treated from PTSD. His writing and art often deal with these issues as well as the realities of living in a broken world. Having spent time in PHiladelphia as both an addict and outreach worker, and then Atlanta, GA as well as Harrisburg, PA as a minister, Jeremy has many a story to tell. He has been compared to American poet Allen Ginsberg, due to his modern beat poet style, though his writing stands on its own as a testament to his survival and continued journey through this messy life. *Latitudes takes place every 3rd Wednesday of the month, starting at 6pm.*

EVENT: Submissions Request for Dover Players 10 Minute Play Experience 2020 Dover Players is accepting submissions for its "10 Minute Play Experience" to be held July 17-19, 2020 at the North Olmsted United Methodist Church (NOUMC) in North Olmsted, Ohio. A cash prize (percentage of admissions receipts) will be awarded to the winning playwright for the Best Play based on audience vote. A judging panel will vote on the following categories and certificates will be awarded to the Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Creative Writing (playwright award). Rules: Deadline for submission, Friday, April 10, 2020 Plays must be submitted in pdf form by email to lslittle(a)wideopenwest.com Note: Dover Players' plays are performed in a church sanctuary (no stage curtain), therefore space is limited. We do provide side curtains for actor and actress entries/exits to and from the stage. Keep this in mind when submitting your play. (A diagram of the performance space is available upon request.) Plays must: Be G or PG rated Be written by and all rights owned by the playwright submitting the play Be produced without royalties, per agreement by the playwright Require no more than 5 actors (doubling of roles permitted) Have minimal props, setting and sound/lights (due to space limitations) Be able to be performed in approximately 10 minutes Be limited to 1-3 play submissions per playwright Plays that were not performed during Dover Players 10 Minute Play Experience in 2019, may be resubmitted. If your play is selected and you do not live locally, the play will be directed by one of Dover Players' directors and cast through the Dover Players' audition process. If your play is selected and you do live locally, you may choose to direct and cast it yourself, OR you may have Dover Players direct it, cast it, or both. Criteria for selection: Plays will be selected based on quality, uniqueness, message, entertainment value and the ability to be performed in the theater space.
