Noises Off at The Youngstown Playhouse

The Youngstown Playhouse announces its upcoming production of “NOISES OFF” February 14-23, 2020 The Youngstown Playhouse will present its thirdoffering of the 2019-2020 main stage season, the classic comedy “Noises Off,” to be performed on the theater’s Main Stage for two weekends, February 14through February 23. The production is directed by Playhouse board member Matthew Mazuroski. As the Playhouse announced in October of 2019, “Noises Off” replaces the originally scheduled “Shakespeare in Love.” An ingenious play within-a-play presented at a breathless pace, 'Noises Off' follows the onstage and offstage exploits of a company of actors appearing in a dreadful bedroom farce called 'Nothing On'—complete with mistaken identities, infidelities, scantily clad ladies and slamming doors. As the characters wrap up 'Nothing On,' they find themselves in a backstage world that is quickly falling apart. The two worlds collide into one scandalously silly, fabulously funny nervous breakdown. “Noises Off” debuted in London in 1982, and opened on Broadway the following year. It immediately become popular with regional and community theaters, and was made into a film in 1992 (featuring Carol Burnett and Michael Caine). It has also been revived both in London and on Broadway several times, most recently in 2015. The Playhouse production features local performers John Cox, Paul Dahman, Sarah Jane Demetruk, Candace DiLullo, Molly Galano, James Hain, Brandy Johanntges, Eric Kibler and John Morris. Performances of “Noises Off” are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays, February 14, 15, 21 and 22, at 7:30 pm, and Sundays, February 16 and 23, at 2:30 pm. LCCC Hosts Civic Jazz Band Concert Lorain County Community College's division of Arts and Humanities will host a Civic Jazz Band concert led by Jeffrey Meyers at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Stocker Arts Center's Hoke Theatre. The "Big Band" is the jazz version of the classical symphony orchestra. It is the vehicle composers use for their grandest musical statements. This concert will feature the music of Artie Shaw, Oliver Nelson, George Shearing and Gordon Goodwin. Tickets for the jazz band are $9 for general admission; $8 for LCCC students, staff and seniors 65 and up; or $7 for groups of 15 of more. For tickets, call the Stocker Box Office at (440) 366-4040. March 6 - The Station Agent When his only friend dies, Finbar McBride moves to an abandoned train station in New Jersey, to live the life of a hermit. His attempt at solitude is soon interrupted by his neighbors, Olivia, an artist coping with the death of her son, and Joe, who has a talent for cooking and a hunger for conversation. March 27 - The Red Violin A famous Bussotti violin, known as "the red violin," is being auctioned off. During the auction, we flash back to its creation in 17th century Italy, and follow it as it makes its way through an 18th century Austrian monastery, a violinist in 19th century Oxford, China and back to Montreal, where a collector tries to establish the identity and the secrets of "the red violin." April 10 - Working Woman To help support her family Oma returns to the workplace, landing a job with a former army superior, who is now a real estate developer. She begins to experience escalating sexual harassment from her boss. This is a timely story, told by feminist filmmaker Michal Aviad. April 24 - Britt-Marie Was Here Based on the best-selling novel by Fredrik Backman, author of "A Man Called Ove," this comedy finds Britt-Marie, age 63, re-considering her purpose after leaving her husband of 40 years. We’ve opened up enrollment for our last class of Winter 2020 at Western Reserve Playhouse! *LET’S PUT ON A PLAY!* *(Six weeks to put on a play? We can do it!)* *Instructors: Zachary Manthey and Executive Artistic Director, Dawn Sniadak-Yamokoski* *Dates/Time: February 10th – March 16th. Mondays – 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm* This course is offered for our youngest age group and our newest “thespians.” In this class students will be introduced to the basics of the stage and what all goes into putting on a production. Students will spend classes working on 10-15 minute plays that will have them delving into new worlds and broadening their imagination, while learning introductory skills in theatre arts. The final class will be a showcase of all our students’ hard work! “Let’s Put on a Play!” Is the perfect class for your young child who’s interested in theatre, make-believe, art, and everything in between! The age range if from 5-9, and our students will learn the basics of putting on a play, with a performance on the last day of class. Casting call/table read

I am seeking two college age actors (20-22) to fill the final two roles of my short script. Once these two roles are filled I will hold a table read to work out the glitches of the script (hopefully few if any). We'll hold one more read after any adjustments are made. Once I fill the roles I'll set a date for the read that everyone can make. I'll supply the food and beverages and gas money. A week before the read I'll forward the script to those actors chosen. Shooting will be this summer. Two or three days. One location. Would prefer college students currently in film or acting classes but not a definite requirement.
