These three dispirited souls — D-Bear, a reformed thug; Skully, an alcoholic handyman; and Dime, a transgender sex worker — have created a space for themselves and their makeshift family. They have survived in the worst part of the worst ghetto in Ohio, thriving in what D-Bear calls “the end of the world.” This is where we find the trio when D-Bear receives news that a vicious enemy from his past has been released and is returning soon. As this showdown plays out, the fragile bonds that hold the trio together are strained to the point of rupture. This is great for those interested in upmarket fiction, character-driven stories (which we know theatre people LOVE!) and life in LA. The summary and link are below. Summary: The story begins as Emmeline states: “Leiland McCoy is dead. And that suits me just fine”. Realizing she has spoken harshly of her beloved – and, in fact, has explained nothing at all – she hastily retreats to the beginning of their relationship. She invites us along and we dutifully follow down the path of twisted Los Angeles nights, the predictable party scene and the unpredictable arrival of Scott. Through the guidance (and anti-guidance) of her closest friend Ruby and other characters that flit in and out of their existence, we are shown the ease with which drugs, betrayal, and self-deliverance can take its toll on those only too willing to acquiesce. Elf The Musical, book was adapted by Bob Martin and Thomas Meehan with lyrics by Chad Beguelin and music by Matthew Sklar. Based on the New Line Cinema film by David Berenbaum, this stage production is directed by Scott Spence, with musical direction by Larry Goodpaster, and choreography by Martín Céspedes. The show runs December 3, 2021 - January 2, 2022, in the Senney Theater in Lakewood, Ohio.
