Have you ever wanted to be part of the workshopping process? Wanted to originate a character in a brand-new show? Wanted direct access to tell the playwright *to their face* all of your opinions and have them heard? If so, this might be the opportunity for you. Local playwright Brandi Eaton (*Matt’s First Real Thanksgiving*) has scripted a new full-length dramedy about the interpersonal workings of a family – and this time you can be part of it! Auditions will be held in-person as well as virtually. *For a virtual audition **(for those who are not fully vaccinated yet or who are unable to attend the in-person audition)* – Please submit a monologue or a reading from the script (YouTube or Dropbox/Other video sharing site links preferred) to beaton2922(a)gmail.com before July 26th, 2021. *For an in-person audition **(for those who are fully vaccinated and are able to attend)* – Please sign up through the Sign-up Genius link - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080944AEAB2EA7F94-auditions for a slot. FREE Literary Conference for Playwrights and Other Writers

Literary Cleveland presents their* 2021 Inkubator Conference <https://www.litcleveland.org/events-programs/inkubator-conference-2021>*, a free literary festival for writers and readers. This year, the conference runs from July 11-25 and is completely virtual for anyone to stream. Playwrights, novelists, or other interested parties can attend writing workshops, open mics, or panels like the following: *The "Writing Multiple Storylines" workshop *features best-selling author D.M. Pulley on July 14th & 21st from 4-5 pm EST. Participants explore parallel story structures and investigate ways of combining different perspectives to deepen the plot. *A panel on "Ethical Representation in Writing" *premieres on Sunday, July 18th, at 7 pm EST. Poet Quartez Harris, illustrator Julia Kuo, nonfiction author and DEI leader Dr. Deborah L. Plummer, and author Abby L. Vandiver discuss ethical boundaries in different genres and identity groups. *A panel on "Writing Illness: The Pandemic and Beyond" *streams on Tuesday, July 13th, from 7-8:30 pm EST. It features Caren Beilin, Ali Black, Leora Fridman, and Hilary Plum, all authors who are experienced in writing about illness. The panelists consider writing as a space for mourning and healing after COVID-19 and as a call for racial and socioeconomic justice. *An Inkubator Open Mic with One Mic Open* streams on Friday, July 16th from 7-9 pm. Join to be featured during the conference or hear the best upcoming talent in the area. If you want to read, check the box when you register for the event on Zoom. Readers will be drawn from a hat. *The in-person, outdoor Inkubator Pop-Up* features a book fair, a community-building workshop, and another open mic for an opportunity to share your work. Presented by the West Clinton Block Club in cooperation with Near West Theatre and the Detroit-Shoreway Community Development Organization, visitors will experience a lantern-lit, guided walking tour filled with artistic storytelling as they navigate the charming residential areas surrounding Gordon Square Arts District. In the tour, flash back to one hundred years ago by stepping into a world of Cleveland's most famous and infamous characters of a bygone, post-influenza-pandemic, era. The 1920s notably brought Cleveland some of its most beloved landmarks in Tower Terminal, The Gordon Square Arcade and the theatres of Playhouse Square. It marked an end to the long-fought women's suffrage movement, the beginning of a highly-contested prohibition, and the Jazz Age. The Cleveland baseball team even won a World Series! No matter 1921 or 2021, Historic Haunts promises a fun and unique fall experience for audiences of all ages. Roles available: * Near West Theatre is looking to cast 35-40 people, ages 14 and up, of all genders and ethnicities for this non-musical theatre acting opportunity. Prior theatre experience is not necessary, and both speaking and non-speaking roles are available. For supervision reasons, we are only able to cast ages 14 and up, however, youth ages 7 and up are invited to audition if a parent is also planning to audition and participate as a cast member. Individuals with special skills such as juggling, roller skating, sideshow, and street performer acts are encouraged to audition. Though an unpaid volunteer opportunity, this theatre experience pays dividends in community building. Scheduling: * Rehearsals: Sunday - Wednesdays, Aug 30 - October 7, Sunday afternoons and 6:30-9:30pm on weekdays. Cast will not be required to attend every night of rehearsals. Full cast is called August 30 & 31, and October 4 - 9. There are no rehearsals Labor Day weekend. Beck Center for the Arts, Lakewood, is hiring Music Instructors - Drums, Piano, Violin/Viola, Voice Part-time, hourly, non-exempt Beck Center's Music Education program seeks dynamic teaching artists to instruct students in private music lessons. The ideal candidate is an experienced performer and educator with a proven ability to work with children as well as adults. Lessons are offered on-site at Beck Center, and online lessons are offered as well. We are currently hiring instructors in the following disciplines: * Drums & Percussion - Ability to instruct drum students ages 6 and up. May include teaching early childhood group drumming classes. Many students have interest in rock and popular music, and older students may be members of marching band in school. * Piano - Piano as primary instrument. Ability to instruct students ages 6 and up in all levels of piano study. * Violin/Viola - Ability to instruct violin and viola students ages 5 and up. Suzuki teacher training is preferred, but not required. * Voice - Private and group instruction for students of all ages. Ability to work with students primarily interested in musical theater and popular music. Students are primarily ages 12 and up, though Beck Center does work with younger students to give them a safe and healthy introduction to singing. Comfort working with small groups in our introductory singing classes. This position is responsible for maintaining an active and growing studio by instructing students in weekly private lessons and preparing students for Student Showcase recitals. Instructors are expected to teach consistently during the academic year with an optional summer semester. Beck Center's academic calendar includes: Fall (Sept 13-Dec 18), Winter/Spring (Jan 10-May 28), and Summer (June 13-August 26). Instructors provide a high standard of music instruction that meets the needs of each individual student, tracking their short-term and long-term goals toward sustained growth. Instructors communicate with students, parents, and staff to facilitate lessons and foster student retention. Instructors are responsible for recording attendance and enrollment accurately and promptly in the faculty time and attendance system. We seek individuals with a BA or MA in music performance and/or education with experience teaching privately and/or in a classroom setting and experience performing in a professional setting. Must be an articulate customer service oriented individual who communicates well with students, families, and colleagues. The candidate should have excellent organizational skills and be prepared to lead weekly lessons that are educational with developmentally and age appropriate content. Comfortable using Zoom or other video-conferencing software to conduct online lessons. Hiring is contingent upon passing a background check. A competitive hourly rate will be discussed with each potential candidate. Imagine Chagrin: Seeking Artists for Storefront Displays The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is looking for artists to bring art to local storefronts this coming fall. *Imagine Chagrin* aims to reinvigorate the Chagrin and Lee commercial center, support local businesses, and showcase the abundance of artistic talent in our community. The “Imagine Chagrin” exhibit dates are September 10 through October 8. SHAC is sponsoring *artistic **displays* for *storefronts* located along Chagrin Boulevard between Lee and Avalon Roads and along Lee Road between Chagrin and Van Aken. Include 3 digital images that represent the type of work you imagine producing. All work samples and applications must be submitted electronically.
