(The Musical) Music by Stephen Flaherty and Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens Book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that's been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant! *Students MUST LIST ALL conflicts with regular rehearsals on audition form. Taking the role of "a trickster," Anansi is one of the most important characters of West African, African American, and Caribbean folklore. Actors must be available for evening and weekend rehearsals, and must have flexibility for some daytime/morning performances at local schools. This is a paid opportunity. Open to University of Akron students and community members. *ABOUT THE SHOW:* *Concord Floral* is a one million-square-foot abandoned greenhouse, and a refuge for neighbourhood teens; a place all to themselves where they can throw parties, experiment, dream, and come of age. But hidden there is a secret no one wants to confront, and when Rosa and Nearly stumble upon it they set off a chain of events that include phone calls from the grave.
