The work recounts the events of the capture of the Palace of Justice in Bogotá in November 1986 from the point of view of ordinary people. Julieta Marín, a young law student who works to pay for her studies as a cashier in the Palace of Justice cafeteria, never appeared among the survivors and the dead of the takeover. The disappearance unleashes chaos, fears and repression of the tenants of the house. Rehearsals begin on August 2. Performances from September 16 to October 9. Ohio Regional Music Arts and Cultural Outreach (ORMACO) continues its summer Jazz under the Stars concert series with Cleveland-based vocalist SaVon Bass and her jazz band IndiGo on July 9, 2022, at 7 pm in Medina's Uptown Park. The ensemble will present an exciting selection of popular vocal and instrumental swing, Latin and jazz standards. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy this free concert. It is our intention to return to a “normal” five-show slate by that time. For 2022-2023 we are still producing a limited season. Brochures will be out shortly. We welcome further applications. We are starting from scratch with this process and need full applications, with thanks to all. *The deadline for applying is August 1, 2022. * *Please submit to Play Reading Committee Chair Pat Price at* joeandpatprice(a)centurytel.net **if you have NOT directed with us before, please include a theatrical resume * **SUBMIT 4-5 PLAYS OR MUSICALS that you would be interested in directing at Workshop, along with synopsis of the play (*may be copied and pasted from licensing agent)*. * *** **Give a brief summary of why you believe the play would be effective in our unique theater-in-the-round space. * **Please be prepared to have at least one copy of each script available for the play reading committee should you be selected as one of the directors. * Workshop Players Theater is a non-profit, fully volunteer theater. It is the longest-running theater-in-the-round in Ohio (minus the pandemic break). We have a strong following in the surrounding community and hope that you would like to be part of our theatre family. Submitting directors may be interviewed by the Board of Trustees in August. *Due to the cost of production Workshop Players would do no more than one musical in a season, so if submitting musicals also include some straight plays to increase your chance of being chosen to direct.* We welcome Christmas plays too. Be aware that our backstage space is very limited, making massive scene changes difficult. Change is in the air, and Francis Henshall is looking to make his mark. Fired from a skiffle band and in search of work, he finds himself employed by small-time gangster Roscoe Crabbe, in town to collect a fee from his fiancee's gangster father. But Roscoe is really Rachel, posing as her own dead brother, herself in love with Stanley Stubbers (her brother's killer) who, in turn, becomes our hero's other 'guvnor'. Fighting a mounting sense of confusion, Francis goes out of his way to serve both bosses. But with the distractions of a pneumatic bookkeeper, a self-important actor and select members of the criminal fraternity (not to mention his own mammoth appetite) to contend with, how long can he keep them apart? Richard Bean's hilarious comedy received 5-star reviews from every London newspaper and was the hit of the 2012 Broadway season. Character Breakdown * The age range for each character is flexible and all ethnicities and body types will be considered. Charlie “the Duck” Clench (Male 50s-60s) Small-‐time London gangster that runs a scrap metal company. Streetwise, but not intelligent. Father to Pauline. Cockney accent. Pauline Clench (Female 20s-30s) Daughter to Charlie. Young, pretty, full of life and VERY stupid. Was engaged to Roscoe (before he died) and now engaged and utterly in love with Alan Dangle. A broad cockney accent. Alan Dangle (Male 20s-30s) A young aspiring and terribly over dramatic actor with little common sense. Hot-‐headed and passionate, but ineffective. Engaged to Pauline. Middle-‐class London accent. Dolly (Female 20s‐40s) Charlie’s busty feminist bookkeeper. Smart and sassy, she’s had her fair share of men and is a true match for Francis. Northern accent optional. Harry Dangle (Male 40s-60s) Father to Alan Dangle and partner in a shady law firm-‐ the stereotypical fat crooked lawyer. Constantly trying to sound higher brow than he really is. Posh RP accent, which occasionally dips into cockney. Stanley Stubbers (Male 20s‐30s) A posh public-‐school boy from the Home Counties. Utterly confident and steeped in the arrogance of the upper classes. Rachel Crabbe (Female 20s‐30s) London girl from a criminal family. Sharp and quick-‐witted, driven by her love for Stanley. Spends the play pretending to be her dead twin brother so must be able to play the caricature of a man. Lloyd Boateng (Male, 40s-50s) A London/Jamaican ex-‐con and friend to Charlie Clench. Charismatic, working class with an air of charm. Loyal, warm and owner of “The Cricketers Arms” pub. Alfie (Male/Female, 18+) The slow and doddering “elderly” waiter played by a younger actor. A great physical comedian. Must be able, willing, and ready to do several prat falls and engage in challenging, choreographed physical comedy. May be double cast as ensemble. Gareth (Male/Female, 40+) Supercilious, efficient head waiter. Physically adept - helps out with quite a lot of “business”. RP (Received Pronunciation) accent. May be double cast as ensemble. Ensemble (Open) One or two actors will be cast as an old woman, a vicar, a taxi driver, police officers and more. These are mostly non-‐speaking roles, but essential.
