Announcing Auditions for The Temptation of Adam As part of Cleveland PUBLIC Theatre presents: Test Flight 2024 Written By Samantha Cocco Directed by Mike Frye Auditions will be held in Parma on: Sunday, January 7: 1:30pm - 4pm Monday, January 8: 7pm - 9pm AUDITION LOCATION: Cuyahoga County Library Parma-powers Branch 6996 Powers Blvd Parma, OH 44129 Characters: ADAM – 30s, male, any race/ethnicity. A dorky and awkward nuclear scientist who has been drafted into the military and into the underground bunker. Requires intimacy scenes with MARIE (kissing, hugging/cuddling, touching of the face) MARIE – 20s to mid-30s, female, any race/ethnicity. A compassionate and opinionated woman forced into the bunker at the outset of war. Requires intimacy scenes with ADAM (kissing, hugging/cuddling, touching of the face) DANNY – 30s-40s. any race/ethnicity. Extroverted, blue collar. Brought down to the bunker with his wife and mother. He is trying to keep a sense of humor while their isolated life is taking a toll mentally. About the play: The onset of World War 3 forces a select few to live underground in top secret bunkers. Adam, a nuclear scientist who has been drafted into a noncombat military position, is struggling to cope with the loneliness of his subterranean life. His budding relationship with Marie is changing that, but he worries what will happen when they return to above ground. The Temptation of Adam is a reflection on the toll that isolation takes on our lives and relationships, and what we might do when we are desperate for human connection. This is a fully staged workshop production of a new play. Key dates: Read-through in late January based on actors’ schedules. Tech week begins March 11. Performances are the evenings of March 14, 15, and 16 (three performances). ABOUT THE PROCESS Rehearsals will be 3-4 times a week beginning February 4th, with evening weekday rehearsals and some daytime weekend rehearsals depending on actor availability. An intimacy coordinator will be at rehearsals to stage intimacy scenes between ADAM and MARIE. Actors will be paid at least $200. Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth Theaters in the country, will be holding online auditions on January 6 & 7, 2024 for their third production in their 75th season. MEAN GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL VERSION Book by Tina Fey Music by Jeff Richmond Lyrics by Nell Benjamin Based on the Paramount Pictures film Mean Girls Direction by Sarah Clare Music Direction by Heidi Herczeg Choreography by Emma Clark Follow Cady Heron as she navigates the transition from growing up on an African savanna, to the wild and vicious ways of suburban Illinois. She takes on The Plastics, led by the vicious and beautiful Regina George. But when Cady and her friends devise a "Revenge Party" to end Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a Queen Bee without getting stung. Adapted from the 2004 hit film by Tina Fey, and featuring music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Neil Benjamin, this show reminds all of us that “the limit does not exist”. The production will run Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM from January 25 - February 9, with a matinees at 2:00 PM on Sunday February 4 and Saturday February 10. Director Don Bernardo brings this fast-paced and hilarious play to the stage, having also helmed a production of Ludwig's "Robin Hood" adaptation last year. In Ludwig's fresh version, the dashing Musketeers — and one plucky kid sister — swashbuckle their way through nefarious villains, international intrigue, and exotic ladies. Kerstin Vaughn has her MFA in theatre performance and pedagogy. Her theatrical practice and research have centered on inclusivity, accessibility, and consent. She has taken numerous workshops with Theatrical Intimacy Education as well as Intimacy Directors and Coordinators and has worked on several productions as the intimacy choreographer. This workshop focuses on some super important skills like understanding consent for the stage, communicating physical and emotional boundaries, and considering different bodies and experiences in your performances. Plus, you'll learn how to manage those moments of heightened emotions and set intimate choreography. It's gonna be a blast! Seeking actors for a new play, *How to Live in a House on Fire, *at Test Flight, a new work development program at Cleveland Public Theater. The play is a spell to guide us through climate grief. It asks how we survive times of trouble and reaches to queer history to see how we've survived before. Show information: As a queer couple sorts through their belongings to prepare for a wildfire evacuation in California, they look back to their history and consider what to take with them and what to leave behind. They remember the night they first met at a queer commune in Berkeley, CA in 1970, when another fire shook the community. Full script available on request. Characters: ANAND – an activist looking for purpose, 20s or 30s, always trying to organize his peers, South Asian DREW – grad student looking to care for others, 20s or 30s, written as a wheelchair or cane user, but can be rewritten for another actor with a disability BENNY, a bit of a mess, wracked by nostalgia, 60s or 70s, partners with Jeremy JEREMY, organized, always on his phone, 60s or 70s, a daydreamer, partners with Benny Commitment and dates: Rehearsals will occur from Feb. 12-Mar. 21, with shows March 21-23. Rehearsals will be on weekday evenings with the occasional weekend afternoon. The show will be a fully staged, off-book workshop but will not have as demanding a rehearsal schedule as a full production (likely 2/3 times per week).
