The Sound of Music to be heard at CVLT this winter, November 15 - December 15 *Subheading: Beloved Musical Returns to CVLT Stage After 30-Year Hiatus* CHAGRIN FALLS, OH — The hills are alive once again as Chagrin Valley Little Theatre proudly presents the beloved masterpiece THE SOUND OF MUSIC, opening November 15 and running through December 15, 2024 as part of CVLT's 95th Season. The hit musical features music by Richard Rogers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Howard Lindsay & Russell Crouse as suggested by "The Trapp Family Singers" by Maria Augusta Trapp. Performances on CVLT’s main stage will take place Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM with Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM on Nov. 24, Dec. 1, 8, and 15. Under the direction of Mason Stewart, with musical direction by Oliver Deak and choreography by Jordon Matthew, this production features a talented cast of local actors and on-stage musicians bringing to life the play inspired by the true story of Maria Rainer and the von Trapp family. Abby Longshore stars as the spirited postulant Maria, alongside Cory Bryner as Captain von Trapp and Adair Arko as Mother Abbess. This enchanting show features familiar songs including "Do-Re-Mi," "My Favorite Things," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," and "Edelweiss." Set against the backdrop of pre-World War II Austria, the musical tells the story of a high-spirited novice who brings music and joy back to the von Trapp family while navigating her own path between religious calling and romantic love. CVLT’s production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC is its first in three decades, and also marks the 75th anniversary of the theatre’s building at 40 River Street. The production takes a fresh approach to the familiar material. “This production is focused on the emotions and relationships at the core of the story,” says producer Allie Morrison, “with bold choices that transcend the traditional period setting and staging. Cleveland Chamber Choir: Meditations and Mysticism

Take a moment, take a breath, take time, take care. These words close the Cleveland Chamber Choir's upcoming concert series, Meditations and Mysticism, on October 26th and 27th, a program that invites us to find our center and reflect on the wonder that surrounds us. Medieval mystic Hildegard of Bingen’s chant draws us into this space. Britten’s beloved bestiary composition, Rejoice in the Lamb, celebrates the majesty of all creatures great and small. Philip Glass’s modern minimalism, in the final scene of Einstein on the Beach, delights in the magic of love. This concert is presented in partnership with award-winning mental health program, Ghetto Therapy™️, which offers free therapy sessions open to the public for all age groups. Therapy sessions include a healthy dinner, facilitated discussions by guest speakers and exposure to different forms of therapy including Reiki, sound, art, meditation, and yoga. Our Saturday performance will also feature a fundraiser, celebrating 10 years of making music in Cleveland. There will be raffle baskets, with goods and experiences generously donated by Cleveland businesses and organizations; raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event. Following the performance, you can join us for a reception ($20 suggested donation). We hope you will celebrate with us! Music director needed

I am in need of a Music Director for an upcoming production of MTI’s Broadway review at my middle school. Students are in grades five through eight. With the MTI package we are provided with tracks for the performance, however, students will need instruction and coaching with their vocal parts. Auditions are scheduled for the Monday and Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving, November 25 and 26th. Rehearsals take place after school three days per week (Monday, Tuesday and Friday) from 2:30 to 4 PM in our Elyria school in Lorain county. Performances are scheduled for March 2025, however, the Music Director would not be required to come to rehearsals once the students are secure in their vocal parts. Stipend of $400 is provided through a grant. Additional funds for your travel time may also be available upon request.
