In *The Whole Shebang*, a student presents her thesis project to the department’s board as she works toward receiving her MU, Master of the Universe. She defends her meticulous design of our universe. In *A Long Trip*, an older man struggles to make one final connection with his wife before he feels that he has lost her to dementia. Together, they relive the night that they first met. In *The Green Hill*, a man passionately travels around the world in his search for the real version of the green hill that he has imagined in his mind for so long. Independence Community Theater is Announcing Auditions for Squabbles Written by Marshall Karp Produced by special arranges with Samuel French, Inc. This hilarious play pits a father-in-law against a mother in a comedic succession of squabbles. Jerry Sloan is a successful writer of advertising jingles married to an equally successful lawyer. Living with the happy couple is the not so happy Abe Dreyfus, Jerry’s curmudgeon of father-in-law. Abe is funny a guy to the audience, not to Jerry. The situation is exacerbated when Jerry’s mother Mildred looses her house in a fire and needs a place to stay. Abe and Mildred can’t stand each other. This play is one hilarious confrontation after another until the heart-warming finale in which the oldsters discover that, really, each is not so bad. Cast of Characters: 4 men, 3 women Character ages flexible Abe Dreyfus (60++): retired cab driver, Alice’s father Mildred Sloan (60+); Jerry’s mother Jerry Sloan (30+); jingle writer, Alice’s husband Alice Sloan (Mid 20’s+); lawyer, Jerry’s wife Hector Lopez (30-50); Hispanic handyman? Sol Wasserman (60+); retired pharmacist, neighbor Mrs. Fisher (30+); a governess Auditions will consist cold readings from the script on March 4th and 5th from 7:30 to 9 pm. No appointment necessary. Broadview Heights Spotlights is holding additional auditions for "The Velveteen Rabbit", Thursday February 28, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Building in Broadview Heights - 9543 Broadview Road, next to the police station. Those who are interested but cannot attend should email the Director, Brenton Cochran at fashionlovestheatre(a)gmail.com This play will be part of our Theater for Young Audiences (TYA) series, aimed at providing opportunities for children and their families to experience high-quality theater while learning and practicing good audience etiquette. Performances will be held May 4-12, with two performances (afternoon and evening) on each Saturday and one afternoon performance each Sunday. Broadview Heights Spotlights’ Theater for Young Audiences Series is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture. Flexible cast of 18 (6M, 5F, plus 7 roles that can be either) This enchanting version of the classic children’s story will touch your heart. Unbeknownst to Andrew’s grumpy nursemaid, there is a life to the playthings on the floor and in the toy cabinet when the lights go out in the nursery Timothy Lion, Train Engine, Skin Horse, Model Boat and Velveteen Rabbit all spring to life. Actors represent the ’spirit’ of each toy-chattering, bickering and sharing their feelings in hilarious and touching interactions. With narration by the tender and grandfatherly Skin Horse Spirit, you’ll laugh and cry along with the characters as they endure the trials and tribulations of their unique experiences-especially the Rabbit Spirit, who learns about love when he gains the affection of the young boy. The raggedy stuffed bunny is with him every moment until Andrew comes down with scarlet fever and the doctor orders all bedding, including the much-loved toy, to be burned. Rabbit Spirit escapes that terrible fate by a ’hare,’ finding himself among the wild rabbits and the beautiful nursery magic fairy. With a late-Victorian flavor in the dialogue and costuming, this adaptation creatively and beautifully renders for the stage the miraculous story of a stuffed animal made real by a child’s love and a little magic.

Auditions for "Seussical" set at ABOB!

Arlene’s Broadway on Buffalo announces auditions for “Seussical The Musical” have been scheduled Sunday, March 10 through Tuesday, March 12 from 6-8 p.m. each date. No appointments are necessary and casting is open to people of all ages. Nothing has been precast…all roles are available. Performance dates are June 7-9, 14-16 and 21-23. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday shows will be at 2:30 p.m. ABOB is located at 236 Buffalo Street in Conneaut. People seeking to audition are asked to come prepared to sing a song (with either sheet music or internet/karaoke music) and be ready to read from the script. A movement assessment may also be part of the audition. Please bring a list of potential rehearsal conflicts as well. Director is Clay Nielsen. “Seussical” is based on an amalgamation of Dr. Seuss books and tells the story of Horton the Elephant and his efforts to save the Whos, whose world is located on a small clover blossom. The show is brimming with great music, including “Solla Sollew,” “Oh The Thinks You Can Think,” “It’s Possible” and “The One-Feathered Tail of Miss Gertrude McFuzz.” Named characters include The Cat In The Hat, Jo-Jo, Horton, Gertude McFuzz, Mayzie Labird, the Sour Kangaroo, The Mayor of Who and his wife, Yurtle the Turtle, General Ghengis Khan Schmitz, The Wickersham Brothers and the Bird Girls.
