------------------------------------------------------ CSU DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE PRESENTS THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST FEBRUARY 21 - MARCH 3, 2019 Written by Oscar Wilde Directed and Adapted by Russ Borski The Cleveland State University Department of Theatre and Dance<http://www.csuohio.edu/theatre> will present The Importance of Being Earnest from February 21 to March 3 in The Outcalt Theatre. This Oscar Wilde classic ("a trivial comedy for serious people") uses humor to play with themes of society, marriage and relationships in a witty manner. Directed by Russ Borski, this cheeky production is lush with mistaken identities, plot twists and madcap action. Earnest is often categorized as a comedy of manners, using humor and satire to address more serious themes of social standing and inter-personal relationships. "As these issues are underplayed, trivial matters in life such as the choice of eating bread and butter as compared with having cake are given serious discussion," Borski said. "Wilde elevates the simple act of speech to a competitive sport, with verbal sparring turned into an Olympic event." The all CSU cast includes Casie Griffis (Miss Prism), Aaron Levigne (Rev. Canon Chasuble), Steven Livingston (Algernon Moncriff), Matthew Logan (John Worthington), Brooke Myers (Gwendolen Fairfax), Emmett Podgorski (Merriman, Butler), Elizabeth Samsa (Cecily Cardew), Kyle Stehura (Lane, Manservant) and Suzanna Szabados (Lady Bracknell). Split Creative, a digital media company located in Cleveland, Ohio is looking for a host/hostess for a Esports TV show. Split Creative is looking for an experienced host/hostess to join our lifestyle and entertainment program that will air on the Armed Forces TV Network. The ideal candidate will have entertainment hosting or reporting experience and will be comfortable in an on-location and in-studio setting, in both a scripted and non-scripted environment. Strong interviewing and story development skills needed. The host/hostess will be the face of the program and is required to have a strong personality, excellent communication skills and the ability to engage an audience. The host/hostess will work both in-studio in our Cleveland studio and on-location as content dictates. Most of the time will be spent in Cleveland with some additional time spent at various Esports tournaments. The host/hostess will also contribute story ideas, write scripts, arrange interviews and provide fact-checking. Work performed is for all media platforms and initiatives, including for example: on-air, web, digital and social media. The host/hostess collaborates with producers and news management in the development of content for news shows, promotions, and online. May appear in promotions as assigned. The host/hostess must be comfortable in front of large crowds, with strong improvisational skills and the ability to think quickly on your feet. A great, engaging voice that commands attention and delivers assigned messages with impact is a must. - Previous on-camera experience. - Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience. - Must be able to interview and speak on-camera. - Must provide a headshot. - Provide Video if possible. - Knowledge of current video games and Esports is preferred, but not necessary. - Ability to commit to 13 episodes that will be created between now and October 2019. - Ability to interpret information quickly and summarize into a clear, concise, relevant and understandable presentation. - Willingness to travel to a few Esports tournaments. - Must be a strong team player and able to work with other talents, production crew, and staff - Must be a skilled communicator capable of speaking to a diverse audience and conveying messages effectively. He or she will focus on growing new audiences while retaining and deepening relationships with current audiences. Through effective communication of the mission, vision and programming activities, the Director of Marketing and Communications develops and executes strategies to generate all earned ticket revenues for the theatre, education and community programming. The Director of Marketing and Communications plays a leading role in Karamu's strategic planning initiatives which currently include 1) maintaining minimum ticket sales and fees at 65% of capacity for all performances, programs and services and 2) Increasing earned revenue. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS ROLE INCLUDE: * Collaborate regularly with the artistic, education and programming teams to ensure a clear and accurate interpretation of the organization's vision, direction and activity. * Execute the planning and implementation of all marketing, public relations, publications, and sales programs to increase earned income through single ticket and season ticket sales, annually. * Shape public perception of the theatre, arts education and programming through execution of brand identity via print communications, publications, electronic media, media relations, public events, and physical spaces. * Manage annual expense budget to run all marketing, publicity, sales and graphic design efforts and operations. * Work as part of the leadership team on short and long-term strategic issues. * Lead team of staff, vendors, consultants and volunteers to achieve annual and long-range goals. * Cultivate an innovative working environment that enables growth in new technology and marketing practices to ensure Karamu's vitality. * Develop community ties and serve on committees to further develop the profile of arts within the city and state. * Lead initiatives to achieve goals defined in the Karamu's strategic plan, and further develop long-range audience/costumer development goals and strategies. * Expand public relations efforts to increase national profile, as well as increase local awareness of the theater's national programs. * Oversee the management of the website and social media campaigns. * Use marketing efforts to support increased facilities rental. * Collaborate with other internal departments to improve the patrons' experience. * Collaborate with the Director of Development to integrate organizational strategy and customer relationship management in marketing and fundraising efforts, and with the Box Office to increase sales and ensure excellent customer service. * Other duties as assigned. He or she will assist the Development Director on development and fundraising through grants from major local and national foundations and through the identification, cultivation and stewardship of prospects and individual donors for planned and major gifts. The Development Manager plays a key support role in Karamu's strategic planning initiatives which currently include the establishment of strong development systems and functions. This position provides an opportunity to develop experience and skills in fundraising and an understanding of cultural arts operations.
