Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre announces auditions for PROOF Located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS: On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father's madness—or genius—will she inherit? Proof is presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York. Rehearsals will begin on March 4th and will typically run Sunday through Thursday evenings Performances: April 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th at 8pm and April 14th at 2pm CHARACTERS (Paid Roles Available): Catherine (20s) - A young woman, 25 years old, who inherited much of her father's mathematical genius and, she fears, his "instability" as well; she gave up her life and schooling to take care of her father until his recent death. Claire (30s) - Catherine's older sister, a practical and business-minded woman who has been comfortably successful in her work and relationships. She left Robert and Catherine behind, distancing herself from the run-down family home of her youth. She left the family to make a new life for herself in New York City. Robert (50s-60s) - A recently deceased mathematician praised for his groundbreaking work in his youth, but whose later years were plagued by delusional mental illness; he is seen in Catherine's imagination and in flashbacks. Harold (Hal) Dobbs (20s-30s) - One of Robert's last Ph.D. students during the one year his idol and mentor's illness went into remission, at least enabling Robert to teach, if not continue his own creative mathematical work. ATTIRE - Dress to impress in red, pink, black, or whatever your heart desires! Wear what makes you feel good! COST - Dances are $12 per person. Pay at the door. There are no pre-event ticket sales. WHO MAY ATTEND? - You do not need to bring a dance partner but you may be dancing with lots of different people during the lesson and while the band plays, if you like. If you want to only dance with the person you bring with you, that is fine too. You do not need previous dance experience. We do hope you bring a positive and open mind and attitude. We welcome anyone to join us who has an interest in dance, music, socializing and fun. We don't care what your physical ability or size is, where you are in life, where you are on the spectrum of sexual or gender orientation, what color or creed, or non-creed, you are. Are you a man who wants to learn how to follow or a woman who wants to learn how to lead? That's cool! This idea is not new to the swing dance scene. We are the easiest club to join. Get Hep Swing is lead by owner, founder, and multi-year national and international swing dance champion, Valerie Salstrom. We love spreading the gospel of swing dancing and we are excited to share the language and culture of this truly American, urban folk dance form with you. It is important for us to let you know that this dance style started in the African-American ballrooms of Harlem, New York in the late 1920s/early 1930s. This dance has a gritty earthiness that is incredibly empowering and joyful. We can't wait for you to experience this conversation of dance with us. This Tony award-winning musical adaptation of the classic Dickens’ novel springs to life with some of the memorable characters and songs ever to hit the stage; Food Glorious Food, Where Is Love, Consider Yourself and As Long As He Needs Me to name just a few of the songs that earned Lionel Bart the Tony for Best Original Score. Reluctantly, he had been composing a song for a children’s television show that features a frog- Mr. Bungee- and the specter of the this large green character and unfinished work haunts him throughout his medical ordeal. What was thought to be a tumor turns out to be something more operable and Gordon recovers, grateful for a chance to compose the songs he yearns to produce.
