We've made an intentional decision *not* to have a permanent space, so that our fiscal, time, and energy resources can be focused on producing theatre, not maintaining a building. As such, we've spent the past 6 years developing relationships with folks who can offer us both rehearsal and performance space from Canton to Cleveland - and everywhere in between - in exchange for rental fees, cross-promotion, shared programming, etc. This is also allowing us to develop an audience across Northeast Ohio that - so far - has been willing to travel within an hour's radius to see our productions. MOLLY SWEENEY will be produced at Weathervane Playhouse in Akron. THE END OF THE TOUR and SMOKEFALL both have multiple possible production homes, but will be confirmed definitively when the shows are cast to best leverage a "home court advantage." As potential actors, here's what you can expect. Rehearsals will be scheduled in a location central to everyone involved, and that information will be conveyed to you as part of a casting offer, so you know exactly what you're getting into before committing. Rehearsal location will almost certainly be different than final performance location - and you'll have *that* info as part of the offer as well. For some productions we may have a primary location (i.e. first two weekends in Cleveland) and a secondary location (third weekend in Canton); this information will also be part of your offer. THE STORY: Set in the newest "in" Manhattan restaurant, the play opens with an ethereal waiter preparing for the arrival of a party of four. Just as the two couples are about to enter, it magically begins to snow making the night perfect for a cozy after-theater supper. The two middle-aged couples, Marty and Terry, and Renee and Phil, old friends reuniting after three years, have just seen a new Broadway play. Shedding the formality of the theater, the four friends settle into the comfort of the restaurant, order cocktails and begin to reacquaint themselves. The years and distance separating them have changed them more than they thought. Discussing the play and playing catch-up leads to little arguments and major differences of opinion. More drinks are ordered and apologies ease the way into dinner over which are discussed sex, the wearing of fur, matters of health and problems with their children. Time and distance aside, these couples know each other very well and will always be close friends. A third couple, Emily and Matt, acquaintances of Marty and Terry, stop by the table to say hello. After introductions, they are convinced to stay for a nightcap even though Emily has already had too much to drink. The nightcap sends her over the edge, and when the recent tragic death of her son is brought up, the uncomfortable situation is made worse. Emily makes a drunken, public spectacle of herself, forcing Matt to all but carry her out of the restaurant. The ugliness of the moment is not lost on Marty, Terry, Renee and Phil, all of whom are deeply affected. Having shared painful secrets and made new discoveries about one another, the four put their disagreements and arguments behind them and forge ahead in friendship until next time. Perhaps best known as half of the comedy team, Stiller and Meara, the highly respected actress Anne Meara's playwriting debut transferred from Manhattan Theatre Club to a successful Off-Broadway run. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship. This year's competition will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Room 113 at The Cleveland Institute of Music, 11021 East Boulevard, Cleveland, Ohio 44106. The scholarship is designed to give recognition and encouragement to musically gifted teens through the opportunity to perform on stage with the Cleveland POPS Orchestra and receive a cash award to be applied to their continuing studies. Entry is open to all youth up to age 18 residing and attending high school in the seven-county Greater Cleveland region. Contestants can be singers, dancers or instrumentalists. They must be prepared to perform a full-length musical selection from memory. Choice of selection may be drawn from standard popular music repertoire, including songs, dances or instrumental solos found in Broadway musicals, big band arrangements, jazz or light classics. The grand prize winner of the competition will perform with the Cleveland POPS Orchestra at one of their regularly scheduled concerts at Severance Hall or PlayhouseSquare.
