Cleveland Public Theatre announces General Auditions for the 18/19 Season Cleveland Public Theatre is holding general auditions for our 18/19 season. All Northeast Ohio actors interested in working with CPT are encouraged to audition. CPT has a history of multicultural casting and is committed to representing our community on stage. A casting breakdown for each show is below. General Auditions When: Saturday, July 14th 1pm - 5pm Sunday, July 15th 2:30pm - 5:30pm Where: Cleveland Public Theatre (6415 Detroit Ave. Cleveland, OH 44102) James Levin Theatre Auditions are by appointment only and will be scheduled in five minute increments. Actors should prepare no more than three minutes of material which can include 1-2 brief monologues and/or a short a cappella song. (Please note: auditions will be stopped at 3 minutes.) AEA contracts will be considered throughout the season. When scheduling your audition, please provide your preferred time and phone number. Project Descriptions & Casting Breakdown Below you will find descriptions and casting breakdowns for some of the productions we are looking to cast through our general season auditions. In addition, there will be 1 - 2 projects added to our 18/19 season that have yet to be identified and multiple opportunities for actors in CPT's New Work Development series. CONNI'S AVANT GARDE RESTAURANT: A SNOWBALL'S CHANCE Created by Conni's Avant Garde Restaurant Ensemble. Directed by Cynthia Croot. Runs 11/30/18 - 12/22/18, rehearsal begins app. 11/24/18 -4 actors (female or male) of any ethnicity to play "Nurses," which includes performing a supporting role with the touring company and assisting with food prep, dinner service and clean up. Description of project: One of CPT's most popular holiday entertainments is BACK! Hailed as "a deliciously demented feast for the holidays" by The Plain Dealer, this hilarious musical performance includes crazy cabaret, comedy, dancing, game-show competitions, violence, and a five-course meal. The performers originate, cook, and serve the feast, using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients - each course served through musical and choreographed sequences. Conni's Avant Garde Restaurant: A Snowball's Chance is an eclectic, bizarre, and delightful night at the theatre that will have you laughing well into 2019. NOT to be missed. World Premiere. FIRE ON THE WATER Created by Northeast Ohio artists. Produced by Raymond Bobgan. Runs 2/9/19 - 3/2/19, rehearsal begins app. 1/2/19 Multiple actors of a variety of ages, genders and ethnicities Description of project: Fire on the Water, the acclaimed multimedia theatrical event with a live band and 100 rolling chairs empowering audience-adventure... is back! Fire on the Water is a fast-paced series of short plays inspired by a pivotal moment in Cleveland's history-the 1969 burning of the Cuyahoga River. This season, we honor the 50th anniversary. Created by a diverse team of playwrights, directors, and actors, the production features original work by CPT and friends, woven into a powerful theatrical event exploring how the environment shapes identity, while celebrating the remarkable recovery of Cleveland's waterways. A play that will be named at a later date... Directed by Beth Wood. Runs 3/19/19 - 4/15/19, rehearsal begins app. 2/1/19 Description of project: A play yet to be determined. CENTRAL CONCERN (A CO-PRODUCTION WITH OHIO CITY THEATRE PROJECT) Conceived and directed by Pandora Robertson. Runs 5/18/19 - 6/8/19, rehearsal time TBD 3 actors - ages 20 - 50 - any ethnicity - any gender: ability to perform physically rigorous work and a good singing voice is a plus 1 actor/musician -age 20 - 50 - any ethnicity - any gender: seeking an accordion player. Description of project: Using music, humor, and bizarre bouffon theatricality, Central Concern aims to be delightfully depraved and entertaining. Central Concern takes a satirical look at the history of the American real estate profession and how it championed property values often at the expense of civil rights. World Premiere. Review of "Gypsy" at Beck Center for the Arts

Beck’s imbalanced ‘Gypsy’ entertains but does not enthrall Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, American Theatre Critics Association Winner of multiple Tony, Grammy, and Drama Desk Awards for both the original 1959 Broadway production and its 1974, 1989, 2003 and 2008 revivals, Arthur Laurents’ “Gypsy,” with music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, is considered one of the standard bearers of the old-timey American musical. The story, based loosely on the memoirs of famous striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee and set during the 1920s and 1930s, follows an overbearing mother and her two performer daughters from one run-down theater to another just as vaudeville was regressing into burlesque. >From this musical came such memorable tunes as “Let Me Entertain You” and the infamous Mama Rose – the poster child for billboard-sized show business mothers – which has served as a prominent showcase for leading ladies the likes of Ethel Merman in the original production and Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daily, Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone in subsequent revivals. Natalie Blalock stars as Mama Rose in the Beck Center for the Arts’ entertaining but less-than-enthralling production. My name is Dagen and I am a senior video/film major at the Cleveland Institute of Art working on my final thesis project (a film… this film). Dates: Location is available to film in from July 24th through August 3rd. Will need approx. 45 cumulative hours of time from actors in that window (example: 5 days at 8.5 hours per day).Compensation: As a college student I am having to work on an entirely self funded budget. I can offer each actor $150 for the estimated time of production. If reshoots are needed or if we need to go over that estimated time limit then I will offer each actor an additional $50 per day (1 day = 4 to 10 hours). There will be food provided for every 5 hours of production time per day (example: 8 hours of production = 1 meal, 10 hour of production time for a day = 2 meals). Each meal will have a half hour of time allotted to it (which does not count towards the total hours of production time).Times to audition: Tuesday - Thursday (10th - 12th) from 2-4 p.m. at the Cleveland Institute of Art. I am available for auditions later then that but it will have to be somewhere other than at CIA. But I want to be flexible to people’s time so if interested in a different time please contact me. The Film: Arriving at art college as a fresh faced freshman, Mia feels inadequate as compared to her more talented and more outgoing roommates. A slow spiral begins as Mia’s struggles with self confidence in her work which leads to a deterioration of her talents, which further brings down her self image, which comes back around to her confidence. Afraid of appearing weak next to her (seemingly) well adjusted roommates, Mia retreats from their company and offers of assistance. This film highlights the difficulty of transitioning a creative interest from a hobby to a professional pursuit. The pressure to perform and loss of emotional outlet throws the individual off balance as it makes them more vulnerable to outside influences due to the loss of their internal method of emotional processing that the creative outlet provided. 2 Roles available:(inquire about audition lines for each role separately) 1. Aurora - An antisocial snarky Illustrator. She is the most technically talented of the roommates (and knows it) and is bored by the easiness of the early courses they are required to take. Her academic boredom and antisocial behavior often gives off the impression of being cold or rude. She especially doesn’t enjoy how needlessly loud and hyper her other roomates get and even takes a bit of pleasure in pushing some of their buttons. She also has a subconscious habit of leaning intimidatingly in open doorways. 2. Ann - The most socially outgoing of the roomates, she is high energy and high enthusiasm. She likes being out in public and hates being alone so she looks to drag people out of the dorm as often as possible. However, she is terrible at reading the temperature of a room and nearly incapable of empathizing with others emotions. So often her lively positive nature causes more harm than good, but she is then blissfully unaware of the harm she has caused. She is also most certainly not a morning person and is incapable of carrying on a coherent conversation before 9 A.M.*

Summer auditions are here and are you prepared? Dr. Christopher Hutton, Baritone, is taking new voice students and excited to get you physically and mentally prepared for auditions and performances. Dr. Hutton has a Masters Degree and Doctorate of Music Arts degrees in Vocal Pedagogy (Science of Singing) from Arizona State University, and is fluent in teaching both belting/music theatre technique and classical technique. Christopher attended Youngstown State University where he received his Bachelors in Voice Performance. He has also performed opera at regional opera houses for over thirteen years.
