Western Reserve Playhouse opens its 2018 season by presenting Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers, which will run January 26, 27 & February 2, 3, 4, 9, & 10. By America’s great comic playwright, this memory play is set in Yonkers in 1942. Bella is thirty-five years old, mentally challenged & living at home with her mother, stern Grandma Kurnitz. As the play opens, ne’er-do-well son Eddie is financially strapped & taking to the road as a salesman. He deposits his two young sons on Grandma’s doorstep - where they are left to contend with her, Bella & her secret romance & with Louie, her brother, a small-time hoodlum - in a strange new world called Yonkers. Keith Stevens directs this heartwarming comedy. The cast stars talented young actors Robbie Rush & James Patrick, along with seasoned professionals Shani Ferry & August Scarpelli, as well as OCTA recipients Beth Gaiser & Jay Hill. AUDITION DATES FOR A THURBER CARNIVAL OPEN AUDITIONS FOR THE GATES MILLS PLAYERS’ SPRING PRODUCTION OF “A THURBER CARNIVAL” WILL BE HELD AT THE GATES MILLS COMMUNITY HOUSE ON SUN, JAN 7 FROM 2-4 PM, AND ON MON, JAN 8, FROM 6 – 8 PM. (The Gates Mills Community House is located on Chagrin River Road just north of the Gates Mills Town Hall/Police Station and diagonally across from the Gates Mills Library.) AUDITION PROCESS: Prepared monologues are not required and sides will be provided. A prepared resume and headshot would be appreciated. ABOUT THE PLAY: “A THURBER CARNIVAL” is a series of comic sketches based on the short stories, cartoons and fables of James Thurber, one of America’s greatest humorists. Co-written by Thurber and Cleveland-born actor Burgess Meredith, the 1960 revue won a Tony Award and has influenced comedy revues from Laugh-In to Second City to Saturday Night Live, as well as TV series like “My World and Welcome To It” and movies like “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” Details about the play and James Thurber can be found on www.wikipedia.org. ROLES: Cast members (5 men and 4 women) play multiple roles ranging from mid-twenties to mid-sixties. The revue’s various short sketches offer actors improvisational/pantomime opportunities. SCHEDULE: Performances are March 2, 3, 4 (matinee), 9, and 10. Rehearsals take place on Sunday afternoons, as well as Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings thru February 17.
