We are auditioning for an immediate replacement for the role of ALEX (Early Teens- Late 20's male-identifying Latino/Hispanic) for Tri-C’s production of, “somebody’s children,” by Jose Casas. Auditions will take place this Thursday, January 16 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm as as well as Saturday, January 18th from 12:00pm - 2:00pm in the Studio Theatre at the Tri-C Metro Campus. Rehearsals are underway. They are weekday evenings with some Saturday afternoons. Performances March 5-7. Unpaid. You don't have to be a registered student. Show description is below! somebody's children introduces us to five teenagers who are part of a subculture that isn't shown or explored in the media in any depth. These kids are homeless, and they, along with their families, stay in a rundown motel known as the El Dorado, which is one of many such motels in horrific condition in their area of the city. All the residents deal with issues such as gang violence, drugs and prostitution. Most of the city authorities do little to rectify the situation. The result is that these families live in a world where every day is a challenge and the idea of home is temporary at best. We share a time in the lives of these five teenagers as they tell us their stories through a series of vignettes. They paint a picture of their lives and the cruel realities in which they struggle to survive—all the while doing so in the shadow of Disneyland: The Happiest Place on Earth. Yet, through it all, this group of friends takes the time to share their dreams with us, reminding us that hope can exist in even the harshest conditions.

The Bohemian Comedians, a rising comedic theatrical troupe, is excited to announce in-person and online auditions on January 26th for performance roles with stipend pay in their upcoming production of The Roaring 2020s: An Original Interactive Murder Mystery Dinner Experience Written and Directed By Jesse Oyster The Roaring 2020s is a genre bending new work that seeks to take audiences through the immersive multi-layered story of *a murder mystery dinner experience gone wrong*. The Synopsis (before the show goes wrong): Power is a precarious ladder in Capone’s Chicago, especially when his family gets involved. The owner of Pablo’s Preserves, Chicago’s newest speakeasy, finds herself in over her head trying to balance a hostile takeover from the Italian mafia, and a gold mine trade agreement for imported vodka with a mysterious Russian duchess. Forbidden loves will be revealed, ambitions will be crushed, and loyalties will be pushed past the brink as they unravel the secrets behind a mysterious death. The Synopsis (after the show goes wrong): Lucy Lancer, the ambitious owner of Pablo’s, gets a little more than she bargained for after asking Broadway's latest washed up actor/playwright, Maxwell Maddock, for a murder mystery dinner experience. Guests join in the action for the calamitous grand opening of a 1920s murder mystery filled with eccentric characters, bootlegging, and espionage. It is clear though from the beginning that strange ambitions are at work behind the scenes. Lucy struggles to maintain her composure as the opening cocktail hour spins out of control. Her uninvited conman ex arrives, a key actor is replaced last minute by an apathetic understudy, and the head chef keeps sending people on seemingly irrelevant side missions with dire implications. The murder mystery and backstage drama finally collide when Lucy is murdered during the opening toast in a flicker of the lights. As each performer breaks character and copes with the loss of their patron and friend, Maxwell refuses to drop character as Massimo, the Mafia Boss Bastard of Capone, until the mystery is solved. As guests work with the cast to uncover the secret plots of the other performers, they discover the owner might not have been the only potential victim of the night. Each additional performance would be accompanied by at least one in-venue brush up rehearsal. All actors would receive comparable compensation for each additional performance added to the schedule. Casting breakdown: (4M, 3F. Each performer will be cast as a 1920s character and a 2020s character, except for Lucy and Pablo. Performers in "The Roaring 2020s" should be comfortable and confident with character driven improvisation. All roles are open to all 18+ actors who feel they are the right fit regardless of race, age, and gender.) - Massimo/Max - 23M - A rising gangster in Chicago’s Italian Mafia and the bastard nephew of Al Capone; Massimo Manchelli is the grizzled, charismatic 1920’s character played by Maxwell Maddock, the disgraced Writer and Director of the off-broadway flop, the Void, and tonight's treacherous performance. - Bertha Bronowich/Lee Lancer - 25F - A Russian Duchess who came to America to sell vodka during the American and Russian prohibition. Bertha serves as the 1920’s character of Lee Lancer, the practically-minded accountant at Pablo’s and disgruntled younger sister of Lucy. - News Reporter Barry Bartenboot/Dr. Hector Brown - 27M - An eccentric news reporter brought in by Trixie; Barry serves as a duisguie for Hector, Lucy’s conman ex who has shown up uninvited. - Trixie Tiramisu/Beatrice Huns - 19F - The jazz singer at Pablo’s and favored niece of Al Capone, Trixie Tiramisu is the stage name of Beatrice Huns, a social media sensation and local rising actress. - Stephano Bricker/Steve Smith - 21M - A mafia grunt who does Massimo’s dirty work. The stage character of Steve Smith, a Server at Pablo’s who got roped in as the understudy last minute, and just wants to go on his fifteen minute break. - Pablo - 31M - The greatest chef in all of Chicago who's been working at Pablo’s since its foundation. Pablo is famous for Pablo’s soggy churros, excitable demeanor, and complete inablility to use first person pronouns. - Lucy Lancer - 29F - A political socialist and owner of Pablo’s. His constant concern and care for Adam, the old family servant, immediately makes the audience esteem him. When he learns that his brother Oliver is planning to kill him, he leaves home and goes to the Forest of Arden with old Adam. In the forest, he attaches love poems addressed to Rosalind on all the trees. Finally, he and Rosalind are united and wed. - Celia (Female, 20s-30s) - She is Rosalind’s cousin and closest friend. When Rosalind is exiled by Celia’s father, Celia accompanies Rosalind to the Forest of Arden. Since Celia isn’t in love at the time, her practical answers to Rosalind’s queries about love help to explore the depth of Rosalind’s love for Orlando. Celia goes to the forest disguised as Aliena. Eventually she meets Orlando’s brother Oliver and falls in love with him. - Oliver (Male, 20s-30s) - He is supposed to teach his younger brother Orlando to be a gentleman, but he does not do so; he is a treacherous youth and tries to have Orlando killed. Orlando, however, saves him from being killed by a deadly snake and, later, from a fierce lioness, and finally the two brothers are reconciled. Oliver eventually falls in love with Celia. - Touchstone (Male, 20s-40s) - The court clown, he accompanies Rosalind and Celia to the Forest of Arden. There he falls in love with Audrey, a country woman. Touchstone is one of Shakespeare’s greatest “fools.” Yet he is very realistic in his philosophy, and he serves as a norm by which we can view the other characters. - Jaques (Male/Female, 20s-40s) - He is a man of the world, a free spirit. In his travels, he has affected Continental mannerisms of speech and dress, and he believes that his ideas are terribly profound when actually they are very shallow and very generalized. Jaques is satirized by almost everyone with whom he holds “deep discussions.” - Duke Senior (Male/Female, 40s-60s) - His ducal rights are usurped, and he is banished to the Forest of Arden by his younger brother, Frederick. Ultimately, his lands and his possessions are returned to him. - Duke Frederick (Male/Female, 40s-60s) - The “villain” of this comedy, he banishes his elder brother, and eventually he also exiles his brother’s daughter, Rosalind, from the ducal palace. - Silvius (Male, 20s-30s) - This shepherd represents the romantic lover in the pastoral genre of Elizabethan literature. He loves the shepherdess Phoebe, but she constantly rejects him; despite this fact, however, he pines for her throughout the play. - Phoebe (Female, 20s-30s) - As the pastoral girl who is the beloved of Silvius, she is a stock figure of this type of romance — that is, she rejects the advances of Silvius, while he suffers from the woes of love-sickness. Surprisingly, she falls wildly in love with Ganymede (Rosalind in disguise), yet finally she weds Silvius. - Adam (Male/Female, 50s+) - He is the de Boys’ old family retainer. He is dismissed by the nasty Oliver, and later he relates to Orlando that Oliver plans to kill Orlando while he sleeps. He accompanies Orlando to the Forest of Arden. - Corin (Male/Female, 40s+) - In contrast to Silvius, Corin is a real shepherd; he is quite knowledgeable about sheep and their care. His lines serve as a contrast to the courtly wit of Touchstone. - Audrey (Female, 20-30s) - This simple country woman serves as a contrast to the “town” characters. She has trouble expressing her thoughts and cannot fathom the wit of Touchstone, but their love is so rapturous that eventually they are wed. - Le Beau (Male/Female, 20s-40s) - She represents the court gossip, with a talent for propaganda and spin. - Amiens (Male/Female, 20s-40s) - An attendant of Duke Senior; they have has a light, delightful role, and in this role, they sing some of the most beautiful lyrics that Shakespeare ever wrote. - Charles (Male, 20s-40s) - A professional wrestler whom Oliver tells to kill — or at least, maim — Orlando. Ironically, Orlando wins the match. - William (Male, 20s-30s) - He is a stock country character who serves as a contrast to the pastoral lovers, Silvius and Phebe, and also as a contrast to the “town characters.” - Sir Oliver Martext (Male, 30s-60s) - This vicar is not too knowledgeable; he almost joins Touchstone and Audrey in wedlock, but Touchstone is dissuaded at the last moment by Jaques. - Jacques de Boys (Male, 20s-30s) The 2nd son of Old Sir Rowland de Boys…has been off at school for most of the play. - Dennis (Male/Female, 30s-60s) Servant of Duke Fredrick. - Ensemble Roles (Male/Female, Any Age) - Hymen, Pages and musicians, Lords in Duke Senior's forest court, Lords and ladies in Duke Frederick's court OTHER DETAILS: Geauga Center for the Arts is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization.
