When disco diva wannabe Deloris Van Cartier sees her gangster boyfriend Curtis Jackson commit a murder at the grungy club where she’s performing, she reports the crime to the police and is placed in the witness protection program.Disguised as a nun named Sister Mary Clarence, she is placed in the convent of the Holy Order of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith, where she finds herself up against the rigid Mother Superior.Deloris uses her singing talent to inspire the other nuns to create a more contemporary choir, and they become the hit of the community. Word of their success reaches Curtis and his mob, who arrive on the scene to settle their score with Deloris and find them- selves battling not only her, but a gang of feisty nuns and the Mother Superior as well. The Lakeland Civic Orchestra, a full symphony orchestra housed at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio, seeks section string bass players. Rehearsals are Monday evenings, 7:30-9:30pm, on Lakeland's main campus, about a twenty-five minute drive from downtown Cleveland. The orchestra presents 3-4 concerts each year on Sunday afternoons, and repertoire for this year includes Schubert's Mass in G, Beethoven's Symphony No. 8, Mahler's Songs of a Wayfarer, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2. The other shoe drops as touring ‘Kinky Boots’ triumphantly returns Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics The national tour of “Kinky Boots” has strutted back to Cleveland for a limited engagement after its near sell-out stay just over a year ago. The tour seems to be crossing the country with nothing but abbreviated stops in assorted cities, a sign that it is picking up dates as it is phases out of its two-year run. With all this short-term travel comes the possibility that performers may be phoning in performances that lack stamina, enthusiasm and attention span. Not to worry.
