*HATHAWAY BROWN THEATRE INSTITUTE* *PRESENTS “INTO THE WOODS” August 5-7, 2016* *Find out what happens after “happily ever after”in Sondheim’s beloved musical theatre tribute to fairy tales* SHAKER HEIGHTS, OHIO – Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute concludes its 2016 summer season of hits with the acclaimed musical *INTO THE WOODS, **a modern *adaptation of classic Brothers Grimm fairy tales by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, presented at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, for three more performances August 5-6 and 7th. Lapine and Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together *with an epic fairy tale about wishes, family and the choices we make.* The TONY Award-winning book and score are enchanting and moving, and were the basis for the hit movie starring Meryl Streep. The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King's Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays, August 5 & 6 at 7:30 pm; and Sunday, August 7 at 2:00 PM. The show is presented at the Hathaway Brown School, 19600 North Park Blvd., Shaker Heights, Ohio 44122. The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects. *The Art of Play--Creating Theatre for Children* *A Professional Arts Workshop Series* *with Alison Garrigan* * CPAC 2016 Creative Workforce Fellowship Grant recipient and Executive Artistic Director for Talespinner Children's Theatre* *The Art of Play--Creating Theatre for Children* is a series of free workshops for adults, 18 and over, on how to create challenging, engaging, intelligent, and playful theatre for kids and families. During the first part of her Fellowship year, Ali traveled around the country, meeting with other like-minded makers of arts for kids--now she is combining what she has learned with her own method of theatre creation, and wants to share it with fellow theatre artists, teachers, parents, and the joyfully curious and playful--to give back to our amazing community. *How:* To register for a workshop, send an email with the name of the workshop you would like to attend in the header and message, your name, and your contact information to unseelyprincess(a)gmail.com. Ways that other communities around the country are using Children's Theatre to better their environments will be discussed, as well as how to incorporate other methods into our own city. Workshop Limit: 30 *PUPPET PLAY* Saturday, October 22 1pm - 5pm AND Sunday, October 23 11am - 4pm In this two-day workshop, attendees will create their own puppet, bring it to life, and work together with other puppeteers to learn storytelling with puppets.
