CLEVE REVIEW: Cain Park Spends the Summer With Memorable Musical Mutant * 'The Toxic Avenger'* This chaotically charismatic production is directed and choreographed by Nathan Motta. Along with his masterful musical director Jordan Cooper, the pair have brought this unlikely love story/action thriller to life in the open air theatre at Cain Park. Motta has also populated the play with some of the finest actors in the area. Ellis C. Dawson III is more than up to the challenge of playing the dual role of Melvin/Toxie, never losing his inner humanity even after gaining a deformed green exterior. Natalie Green is intoxicating as his love interest Sarah, seamlessly combining silly and sexy as the sightless bookworm. The rest of the residents from Tromaville are impressively portrayed by a quirky quintet of talents. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship. This year's competition will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2016, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Cleveland Institute of Music, 11021 East Boulevard, Cleveland, Ohio 44106. The scholarship is designed to give recognition and encouragement to musically gifted teens through the opportunity to perform on stage with the Cleveland POPS Orchestra and receive a cash award to be applied to their continuing studies. Entry is open to all youth up to age 18 residing and attending high school in the seven-county Greater Cleveland region. Contestants can be singers, dancers or instrumentalists. They must be prepared to perform a full-length musical selection from memory. Choice of selection may be drawn from standard popular music repertoire, including songs, dances or instrumental solos found in Broadway musicals, big band arrangements, jazz or light classics. The grand prize winner of the competition will perform with the Cleveland POPS Orchestra at one of their regularly scheduled concerts at Severance Hall or PlayhouseSquare. CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE AUDITIONING AFRICAN AMERICAN FEMALES, AGE 21-30, FOR CLASSROOM MATINEE TOURING PROGRAM Cleveland Play House (CPH) is seeking a Non-Equity African-American Female Actor, early to late 20s, for our unique Classroom Matinee Touring Program. This program brings live, professional theatre and theatre education programs to K-8 classrooms across Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan. Experience as a teaching artist is a plus, though not required. This position pays $480 per week. A 20 week contract (August 15 - December 21, 2016) is available. Performances and related teaching takes place almost exclusively on weekdays, during school hours. Occasional overnight travel is required with housing and per diem provided by CPH. Performances may occasionally be during the evening or on weekends as well. The actor will perform multiple roles, in two different, hour-long original productions. Actors should have strong command of voice and physicality, and ability to differentiate characters with minimal costume change. In addition to performing, actors will conduct educational programs that accompany performances. Actors must also be able to lift 50lbs, have a valid driver's license, and pass a Federal Background Check. Auditions are by appointment only, and will take place Thursday, June 30th, from 3-5:30pm, in CPH's downtown rehearsal studios. Audition Appointments will last 30 minutes.Actors should prepare two contrasting monologues of 1-2 minutes each, from contemporary plays. (Please no Theatre for Young Audience pieces.) In his wise text, THE FOUR LOVES, C.S. Lewis suggests that all love expressed between individuals boils down to either Affection, Friendship, Eros, or Charity. It's this structure that we'll use to map out the web of relationships in William Inge's play, BUS STOP, a seriocomic classic that chronicles the lengths its 8 characters will go to to experience the love they so deeply desire. A terrific ensemble cast will be selected at auditions on August 14th (1-4 PM) and August 15th (7-9 PM), Aurora Community Theatre, 115 East Pioneer Trail in Aurora. Rehearsals will begin around December 11th, with performances January 27 - February 18, 2017, on Friday and Saturday evenings. All roles are available. Need 3 women, late teens through 60s. Need 5 men, 20s through 60s. Cowboys, waitresses, a bus driver, a local sheriff, a depraved professor, a chanteuse: it's all in here. Rubber City Shakespeare Company is holding season auditions for its 2016/2017 season on *June 25 from 10:30am-1pm, and June 26 from 1-5pm*. The 2016/2017 season includes A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest, A Christmas Carol, Cymbeline, Julius Caesar, and Lear. *All roles are available*. "Secrets of a Woman" is a story of a young man, who is troubled by the streets. He has a sister who is keeping a secret from everyone, which turns out to be the secret everyone should've known!!
