Beaumont high school seeking high school young men for its fall production of Seussical the Musical! Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 8 from 3:30 to 6:00 and Wednesday, September 9 from 4:30 to 6:30 in the SLC Theater. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on the following Thursday. We are looking to cast 18-20 young women and men. For Beaumont’s production, the roles of The Cat in the Hat and JoJo will be played as female. Auditions are open to students in all high school grade levels. All cast members must be able to sing (in harmony) and follow basic choreography. Prepare: Select a one minute reading from any Dr. Seus book to present at your audition. (Memorization not required) Select 32 measures of music to sing from a musical (please avoid selections from Seussical, Rent, Les Miserables, or Phantom of the Opera) Please provide sheet music, no acapella singing. What exactly is The Manhattan Project - Cleveland Lab? The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects. She is a modern day griot. *'Bread --- He is the deceased husband of Mother Sud and the narrator of the story. He is an older man who walks with a hitch and smokes a pipe. *Patricia --- She is the beloved daughter-in-law of Mother Sud. Will --- He is the son of Mother Sud who is a busy politician who is running for public office. {Duel Roles}Mr. Jackson--- A feuding older couple from the neighborhood / Doctor Davidson --- He is the physician who is treating Mother Sud in the hospice. {Duel Roles} Mrs. Jackson/ Sister Cheney ( Church Women) --- A feuding older couple from the neighborhood. {Duel Roles}Morse --- A service man from the neighborhood who marries Keisha. / Doctor Wilhelm --- The first doctor to treat Mother Sud in the hospital. {Duel Roles} Keisha Harden / Sister Bush (Church Women) --- A neighborhood girl who marries a military man who is also from the neighborhood. Pastor Sturgess --- An effeminate church official who used to be homosexual but now claims to be completely “healed” of his homosexual desires by Christ. He is the younger brother Patricia. Pastor Graham --- He is the minister of the church that Mother Sud left years ago. He is also supporting her son who is running in a tight race to get elected. Church Women: Sister Bush, Sister Cheney, Sister Rove ---- Devout church women who come to see Mother Sud in the hospital to assist Pastor Graham in a “praise healing.” Lorenda --- A young girl who comes to visit Mother Sud. {Duel Roles} Dorita/ Sister Rove (Church Women) --- The mother of Lorenda. The Canton Brewery is partnering with Voices of Canton, Inc. to bring you a new group singing experience: SingStark! It’s a no-commitment, no-audition chorus perfect for anyone who loves to sing and those who secretly love to sing in the shower and in the car. SingStark kicks off on September 16 at 7 p.m. at The Canton Brewing Company Speakeasy, 227 Market Ave N. and will continue every third Wednesday of each month. SingStark was created to be equal parts social and musical: Make some great Speakeasy memories at the Canton Brewery by singing together with friends to your favorite songs, while enjoying great beer dating all the way back to the 1880s.
