AUDITIONS FOR SHREK-- TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NEXT WEEK! Dynamics Community Theater of Tallmadge will hold auditions for the Tony Award winning fairy tale adventure, Shrek the Musical. Music by Jeanine Tesori. Book and lyrics by David Lindsey-Abaire. Based on the DreamWorks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig. Auditions will be held on May 26-27th from 6:30-8:30 pm in the Black Box Theater at Tallmadge High School (140 North Monroe Rd). Callbacks, if ne...eded, will be held May 28th. Please bring a picture (it will not be returned), prepare 16 bars to sing A Capella, and be prepared to read from a script provided that evening. There is casting for 4 male and 3 female leads, with a featured ensemble of many fairy tale characters and dancers. Limited casting available for 3rd - 8th grades. Those wishing to audition for leads are encouraged to sing something in the style and range of that character. In addition, Tap auditions will also be held the same days and times. Dancers with intermediate or advanced level Tap should prepare 16 bars for audition. Performers may audition for ONLY Tap, ONLY Acting/Vocal, or both. Jonas Lawrence is directing with music directed by Carolyn Bagley. Performances are July 31 and August 1, 7, 8. Rehearsals begin June 1st.

Hello, everyone! We are currently holding auditions for a crucial part of a feature film the 2380 Film Club is currently producing titled “Quick and Dirty”. The movie is about two roommates who, down on their luck and needing to pay their rent, decide to become drug dealers. Soon, they are caught up in a full scale gang war as they try to survive. The film is a buddy action-comedy in the vein of “Lethal Weapon” and “Pineapple Express”. The role we are currently casting is for the henchman of the main bad guy. The henchman, named Mordecai, is the hired muscle with a tragic past. We are looking for actors that fit this scale: Caucasian 40+ years old (or could convincingly play the part of a 40 year old) Must be fit and muscular in some sort of capacity Must be tall (in the 5’10 - 6’1” range) Must be okay with having potential prosthetics attached to them We will be holding these auditions Thursday at 12:00 pm at the University of Akron’s Kolbe Hall, room 215. BroadviewHeights Spotlights’ Summer Youth Musical: 13 The Broadview Heights SpotlightsCommunity Theater’s youth production of the musical, 13, will run June 18 –June 28, 2015. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances are at 7:00PM; Sunday matineesbegin at 3:00PM. 13 is a musical about fitting in - and standing out. Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast paced,preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following hisparents’ divorce. Surrounded by an array of simpleminded middle schoolstudents, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Canhe situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain or will he dangle atthe end with the outcasts? Theshow’s music and lyrics are composed by Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridgesof Madison County) and the book was written by Dan Elish and Robert Horn. 13 ran on Broadway for over a hundredperformances in 2008 and 2009. Thereare currently plans for CBS to make a movie version in the near future. “Our summer youth production hasreally grown over the past five years. This year we had over 45 kids audition for 16 roles,” says Tim Anderson,Education Director for the Spotlights. Andersonand Maggie Majercik, both residents of Broadview Heights, are co-directing thisproduction, their fifth summer youth show collaboration. Joining them this year is Ryan Bergeronserving as music director. “This show isa great choice for us this year. It’sinteresting seeing kids get to be kids. The discussions we have during rehearsals are heart-felt and honest, andthis is translating into their acting,” says Anderson. The show features a remarkablytalented cast (the average age of which is 13.6) and features Ian Stewart, LexiFrendak, Nicholas DeAngelis, Dylan Grosh-Hoy, Grace Auble, and EricaLiebold. The remaining cast includesDavid Bowler, Delia Brennan, Zoe Douglas, Audrey Halvorson, Clay Hoffner,Hunter Lewicki, Alicia Pedraza, Lilly Saunders, Lex Speer, and NathanWeagraff. The show is not recommended forchildren under the age of 10 due to adolescent themes and some language. Tickets are $14 for adults and $13for seniors and students. Review of Cleveland Public Theatre's "Dontrell, Who Kissed The Sea"

Cleveland Public Theatre's 'Dontrell' is a moving, modern-day parable Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics Nathan Davis' "Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea" is an absolutely beautiful and poignant piece of storytelling. Dontrell Jones III, an intelligent, idealistic and driven 18-year-old, is about to embark on an opportunity of a lifetime - a free-ride to Johns Hopkins - that will break the chain of lower-middle class existence to which generations of his family have been bound. But shortly before his departure to college, Dontrell dreams of an ancestor who dives off of a slave ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and drowns in order to avoid a life of servitude. Dontrell decides to make a similarly courageous and impetuous choice by walking away from the scholarship - his future - in order to find the truth about his past. Although he cannot swim, he knows that he must go to sea, meet the spirit of the forgotten man who changed the family's narrative, and better understand his heritage. One must look back, the playwright tells us, before moving forward. The play takes us on one young black man's journey - a journey infused with hip hop, African dance and ancient ritual - but his quest of self-discovery is as ageless and genderless as it is colorblind. It takes place in Baltimore but explores the mysteries of the universe. And while the play possesses an interesting and necessary layer of social commentary, it is balanced by an overriding theatricality. The script begs to be staged with uninhibited artistry and an aura of mysticism, so that the past and the present, the real and the spiritual, and free-will and fate can beautifully and seamlessly coexist. In short, "Dontrell" is a whimsical, poetic and delicate 90-minute, one-act parable. It is getting its rolling world premiere at Cleveland Public Theatre under Megan Sandberg-Zakian's direction.
