CPT's Nord Playwright Fellowship Application Deadline: June 1st, 2015 CPT's Nord Playwright Fellowship is a year-long program for a local emerging playwright supported by the Nord Family Foundation. CPT initiated this program to provide greater support to the region's playwright community and to nurture active artists. Up to two residencies may be awarded in 2015, which includes a $2,000 stipend for the playwright, development support and a workshop production. Please note that CPT is investing over $15,000 in staff time, support and direct costs associated with the residency. Based on writing samples and one complete play, we will select a playwright with extraordinary potential. This resident artist will be given space at the theatre to write, create and rehearse work. Additionally, the program provides access to CPT's artistic staff and is eligible for the theatre's development programming. The residency is also an opportunity to be on site at CPT over the course of the year, interacting with and learning from designers, actors, directors and other writers. Eligibility * Applicant must be a resident of Northeast Ohio. * Applicant cannot be a Full-Time Student * Applicant must have significant available time to work on major artistic projects. Rehearsals and other commitments are typically in the evenings and on weekends. The obligations of this fellowship will make it difficult to have outside artistic projects. Selection Criteria We are not looking for the most accomplished playwright, rather an early-career playwright, someone who has demonstrated ability and extraordinary potential, but is still defining their voice as a playwright. This program is open to playwrights who work in a variety of processes including directing/devising playwrights and conventional writers of scripts. We want to have the largest impact on the community as possible, so we are looking for a playwright who is at the "right time" in his/her growth to most benefit from the residency. We are looking for someone who is hungry for experiences as a playwright and also is enthusiastic about being an active member of our community at CPT. Applications will be reviewed by CPT's artistic staff and collaborators. The first round of reading will be facilitated blind - without applicants' names. During round one, only "Writing Sample A" will be read. This sample must include a script and should be the applicant's best and most complete work. For playwrights whose work extends beyond the page, video samples will be allowed in addition to the script. Rounds two and three will be conducted with the applicant's name attached. "Writing Sample B", will be reviewed by the panel if selected to move on to rounds two and three. Interviews will be held with the finalists. CPT's Kulas Foundation Theatre Composer Initiative Application Deadline for Application is May 15, 2015 The Kulas Foundation Theatre Composer Initiative is a nine month fellowship program providing early-career composers with first-hand experience creating music and sound design for theatre. This initiative engages composer/designers in a collaborative process under the guidance of the show producer and director to compose and produce original music for two full productions in CPT's Season and to learn about other parts of the creative and production process of theatre. Composers gain hands-on learning experiences through sound design opportunities. The program is intended to significantly grow CPT's capacity for developing original music and sound design, and to support the growth and emergence of local artists. In order to insure the development of work past this residency, both the composer and Cleveland Public Theatre will own full rights to composed materials developed through the Theatre Composer Initiative. *The Cassidy Theatre seeking a Costume Designer for our 2015, production of The Producers.* *Production dates are June 12th – 28th 2015.* The costume master/designer, will be responsible for the overall look of the clothes and costumes for this production. The costumer will be in charge of designing, obtaining, making, and altering costumes for the production. Responsibilities: · study the script · discuss ideas with the production designer, director, and lighting designers · create costume ideas to fit the production’s design concept and budget · research suitable costume styles, fabrics and designs · candidates must be able to sew costumes as needed for the show. · buying or renting outfits · fitting, altering and adapting costumes · cleaning, ironing and mending Synopsis of Show- A down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history thereby bilking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The show follows the antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive "Springtime for Hitler"), hiring a director, raising the money and the consequences of their actions. At the core of this insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. Hello, we’re writing because are in need of talented performers and makers for the Cleveland Mini Maker Faire on June 6th at the Cleveland Public Library! We’re thrilled to invite you to fill out an updated application based on the previous application you submitted via MakerFaireCleveland.com. You’re a valuable part of the Maker Community, and we’d love to add you to our roster of exhibitors once again. You may find a current application at http://makerfairecleveland.com/apply-to-be-a-maker/. It’s a good place to start (and takes on a few minutes!) to rough out your technical and space requirements, but we encourage you to reach out directly to Emily(a)ingenuitycleveland.org to go over specific concerns. Some important information: We’ll provide power and do our best to accommodate Wifi for those who request it, along with tables and chairs if you are nont able to provide yourself, but you are required to bring all electrical and extension cords, as well as the display materials you require. We are finalizing signage and will inform you of all directional and wayfinding signage on which your booth will appear, in addition to your appearance in the program. You are responsible for manning your booth or display the entire time during the event, 10am-4pm. You may bring as many crew with you as you desire, and they are free to rotate in and out and to visit the rest of the event. Load in/Set Up times are (roughly) as follows but there may be the ability to drop some materials off at the library the week before. Friday June 5 from 1 pm to 6 pm; Saturday June 6 from 7 am to 10 am; You must be loaded in and ready to go by 9:45 am on Saturday, and you must plan to strike immediately after the event. Wandering Aesthetics & Rubber City Theater Company Present… The Electric Pressure Cooker Open Mic Cabaret Wandering Aesthetics, in collaboration with Rubber City Theater Company, is proud to announce the next Electric Pressure Cooker Open Mic Cabaret – a monthly “Anything Goes” Cabaret-Style Open Mic. The Electric Pressure Cooker will be held on Friday, May 22 at 8 pm at None Too Fragile Theater inside Pub Bricco, located at 1841 Merriman Road in Akron, Ohio. The Electric Pressure Cooker is a free event and open to the public. Started in the basement of a flower shop, it is an artist driven event that sees over 100 audience members, 30 performances and 6 non-stop hours of art. Most months include an art gallery, showcasing the talents of a local visual artist. Sign ups to perform begin one-half hour (7:30 pm) before performances (8:00 pm) start. Anyone may sign up for a 10-minute slot. An emcee, drum kit and sound system (with operators) are provided. Ruben Ryan – improv star – is this month’s emcee. ALL varieties of acts are encouraged to perform. Previous acts have included: monologues, acoustic musicians, play readings, comedians, experimental art, dancers, scenes from plays, improv, devised work, full rock bands and performance artists. But the sky is the limit; no art is too taboo for the #EPCooker! ALL levels – from beginner to the most experienced – are encouraged to perform. Those under 18 are permitted to attend (and perform!) with adult supervision. The #EPCooker is not just an Open Mic, it is an open and welcoming community of artists. It is also a great networking event, a great place to improve stage presence and a great place to develop as an artist. Pub Bricco has a full bar and a wide selection of food. Food and alcohol are permitted in the theatre. About the Emcee: Ruben Ryan started doing “weird hippy theatre” with Standing Rock Cultural Arts in Kent when he was no older than 11. He has been strung out on a diet of theatre and improv ever since, working with such organizations as: Point Of No Return Improv, The Bang and the Clatter Theatre and Karamu House. Currently, Ruben is a member of Just Go With It– Akron’s only long-form troupe.
