‘Bullets Over Broadway’ a low caliber play in a high caliber production Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics Borrowing from the vernacular of the pinstripe-suited gangsters who populate Woody Allen’s homage to 1920’s musicals, “Bullets Over Broadway” has all da right parts in all da right places. The show comes replete with a time-tested backstage storyline, broadly-drawn stock characters right out of central casting, jazz-infused standards like Cole Porter’s “Let’s Misbehave” that serve as show tunes, and high energy production numbers perfect for the period. But “Bullets Over Broadway,” which is the stage version of Allen and Douglas McGrath’s nonmusical 1994 film of the same name, never becomes more den da sum of its parts. All except Actor Two play multiple roles ACTOR ONE: Black Woman (age 20-30), plays Young Black Mom, Adella, Big Shirley, Writer 1, Young Sibling, Intifada ACTOR TWO: Black Man (age 20-30), plays Sutter ACTOR THREE: Black Woman (age 30-40), plays Eudarrie, Lucy, Writer 2, Middle Aged Mother, Genitalia ACTOR FOUR: Black Man (age 30-40), plays Reverend Benson, Writer 3, Stepfather, Larry, Old Granny ACTOR FIVE: White Male (age 20-40), plays Roy, Clint, Moderator, Officiant, White Man NOTE: This is a gay satire so there will be some guy-on-guy kissing. When Stan and Marcus then meet online and hook up, the lives of these two couples become intriguingly entangled. Meanwhile Annie starts dating David, but she is also fooling around with Alice, who seems to come to the rescue when Mandy has a melt-down in this city with way too many options – romantic or otherwise. The Happy Sad is directed by Tyson Douglas Rand, and features Ryan Edlinger, Jack Matuszewski, Ryan Mayer, Nate Miller, Ellie St. Cyr, Hillary Wheelock and Monica Zach. Seeking actors of all ages, sizes and ethnicity to take part in a photo shoot happening this Sunday, October 11 (3:30 p.m.). The shoot will complete the final photograph in the photographic series "Glamour & Gore." Participants will be asked to arrive in evening attire (as if you're going to a wedding) and lay on a wooden floor and slowly walk around.
