It doesn't matter what your favorite holiday is. They all get together in the new comedy fable *Hell with the Holidays* by Nicholas Savitch, opening December 11 from *Gilda Shedstecker Presents!* Christmas (Dan Fritz) is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after years of expending good cheer in the midst of a war torn world. Father Time (Manuel Halkias) orchestrates a scheme to stage an intervention for Chris with the spirits of his famous siblings. But every family has its dysfunction and this one is no exception. Delphine (Patrice Rittenhouse) has made Halloween the second biggest holiday ever, and Ostara (Ellen Fox) has millions of eggs to boil. Can they put aside their rivalry to help their brother? The laughs continue when Mariette (Roman Feemster) and Valentino (Michael Burkhardt) drop in from the balls of Bourbon Street to announce their engagement, and Jack Frost (James Dreussi) catches Georgie (Linda Alexander-Radak) sneaking around the Arctic with sinister plans to make every day Earth Day! All is nearly lost when reminiscences of pagan childhoods give way to comparisons of experience with the church. Can Christmas be saved before Mother Nature (Haggy Hageman) crashes the party? With lots of nods to pop culture, and the emotional gamut from heartbreak to hilarity, you have never seen a holiday play like this one! Announcing AUDITIONS TONIGHT, TOMORROW, & WEDNESDAY for Near West Theatre's Godspell (Ages 9-15) December 7, 8 & 9, 2015 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This is a group audition. Come ONE of these evenings. Plan to stay for the entire time specified. (See list of roles below) Location: Near West Theatre 6702 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, OH 44102 Arrive 15 minutes early to register. Anyone arriving after the starting time will not audition that day. About the Show Godspell was Near West Theatre's very first production, back in the summer of 1978. It seems only fitting to produce this animated and captivating musical once again in the first full season at Near West Theatre's new home! This winter, a group of young actors will present this theatrical circus using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques, and a hefty dose of comedy. Based on the ancient writings of Matthew about the life and teachings of Jesus, and brought to the world stage by John Michael Tebelak in the early 1970's, these inspiring stories of love, goodwill and compassion will come vividly to life through an eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville. Voice: Tenor (high: A4) John the Baptist / Judas - A follower of Jesus who questions everything. Voice: Baritone (high: E4) Character 1 - The comedian who is goofy, cute and has high energy. Voice: Mezzo Character 2 - A comedian who is always cracking jokes and goofing off, but who is also genuine and gentle too. Voice: Baritone (high: E4) Character 3 - The youngest follower who is energetic, playful and loves to have fun. (Sometimes sings in falsetto) Voice: Tenor (high: D5) Character 4 - The confident and high spirited show-off of the group who is ready to try anything. Voice: Soprano (high: C6) Character 5 - Not the brightest of the followers, but very kind, sweet and innocent. Voice: Tenor (high: A4) Character 6 - Shy, quiet and sometimes slow, but also very motherly/fatherly and devout. Voice: Mezzo Character 7 - A bit of a tomboy, but open and sweet. She is Jesus' most devout follower. Voice: Alto Character 8 - The sassy and edgy one who is very urban and a bit cynical too. Voice: Alto (low: D3) Narrators - Most of the parables have a narrator or two. Our narrators should be among our best speakers! Ensemble - Will play the Judge, Widow, Debtor, Fellow Servant, Good Soil Leader, Shy Child, Weeds, Seeds, Lost Sheep, Sneaky Goat, Goats, Sheep, Goat Leader, Son, Pigs, Landowner, Elder Son, etc. Some have lines and some do not. Whether or not they have actual dialogue, ALL will be encouraged to develop larger than life characters.

Coach House Theatre Announces Auditions for Agatha Christie's Murder on the Nile Always the audience favorite of the season, Coach House Theatre's annual Agatha Christie will be Murder on the Nile, running January 28 to February 21, with performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm. Coach House Artistic Director Nancy Cates seeks a multi-cultural cast of seven men and six women, ages 20's to 70's. (The nationalities of various cast members include virtually all of Europe, and most of the Middle East and Africa.) Audition Times: 6pm, Sunday, December 13 7pm, Monday, December 14 Coach House Theatre, 732 W. Exchange St., Akron, OH 44302 (in the back of the parking lot, at the intersection of W. Review of "Peter and the Startcatcher" at Dobama Theatre

Dobama’s ‘Starcatcher’ leaves you clapping for more than fallen fairies Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics The story of Peter Pan is still capable of turning adults into children. Not an easy feat considering that growing old means growing out of and giving up on childish things. Yet James M. Barrie’s tale about a boy who won’t grow up continues to resonate with children of all ages. “Peter and the Starcatcher,” which opened on Broadway in 2012 and won five Tony Awards, is a very playful “Peter Pan” prequel that introduces us to an orphan before he was Pan, a Captain before he was Hook, a strong-willed girl before she birthed Wendy, and boys before they were lost. This play was adapted for the stage by Rick Elice from Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson’s 2004 children’s novel, with some intermittent music by Wayne Barker. A good production of “Peter Pan” is defined by its ability to get a greying audience believing in fairies and wishing it could fly. But the litmus test for a good “Peter and the Starcatcher” – a show that is set on a naked stage, has its actors portraying a range of characters, creatures and inanimate objects, and is blatantly meta-theatrical in its presentation – is its resourcefulness. The ensemble must turn ordinary rope, planks and ladders into storytelling stagecraft, fashion the illusion of flight without wires, and get an adult audience to willingly engage its imagination and play along.
