Also, looking for individuals who can play banjo, harmonica, fiddle, concertina, or accordion for onstage roles. For singing roles, please prepare 16 - 32 bars of music in the style of the show (you can see portions of Barnum on YouTube) and/or be prepared to show your circus or musical skill. Cold readings will be from the script if needed. Please come dressed for movement. *Roles:* * Phineas Taylor Barnum: Baritone (plays 25-50). Legendary showman who is a charming, idealistic dreamer, who tends to exaggerate. * Charity (Chairy) Barnum: Mezzo (plays 25-50). Practical, grounded in reality wife, who has a strong disposition, but retains a sweet, teasing sense of humor. * Ringmaster: Baritone (plays 25-50). This character is the “story-teller”. * James Bailey: Baritone (plays 25-50). Character at the end of the show who convinces Barnum to go back into the circus business. Role can be combined with the ringmaster. * Jenny Lind: Coluratura Soprano (plays 25-40). Beautiful operatic singer who is Barnum’s romantic interest. * Joyce Heth: Alto/Belt (plays elderly woman). Plays the “Oldest Woman Alive”. * Blues Singer: Alto/Belt. Role may be combined with Joyce Heth. * General Tom Thumb: Tenor (plays age 15-30). Mather Dance Collective Performances This Weekend

The Department of Dance at Case Western Reserve University is pleased to announce this spring’s production of MaDaCol (Mather Dance Collective). Performances are April 16 and 17 at 8 p.m., and April 18 at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. MaDaCol, one of the university’s oldest undergraduate student organizations, offers an important creative outlet for CWRU graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff and greater Cleveland community members. The performance will feature new dance works by second-year graduate students Andrea Alvarez, Jared Bendis, Ziying Cui, Yidi Lin and Richard Oaxaca, and senior dance major Abbey Hafer. More than fifty dancers from a diverse range of performance backgrounds will perform in the production. Choreographed by Andrea Alvarez, *Luminary Catalyst *is a play on light. The work, with music by Terry Riley, is driven by the contrast between darkness and light and their effect on the dancers. *Chroma* is a new work that explores the kinetic relationship between dancers and their environment of light and color. Choreographed by Jared Bendis, the trio of dancers don hidden technologies that aid in the creation and manipulation of the visual projections revealing an augmented visualization of this relationship. *Turn Left, Turn Right *is a work by Ziying Cui showing encounters in which people may accidentally meet or miss each other. It is set to music by Franz Schubert. Yidi Lin’s new work titled *X* is an abstract piece performed to music by Steve Reich. *Ascencion*, choreographed by Richard Oaxaca, juxtaposes the unwelcome challenges that can be present in life with the joy that comes from the enduring support of family and friends. It is set to a music composed by Michael Harrison, featuring cello innovator Maya Beiser. Abbey Hafer, a senior dance and art history major, has created a solo inspired by Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s famous sculpture *Apollo and Daphne* for her senior capstone project. The work draws dominantly on the Apollo figure from the sculpture as well as generic themes in the mythical story of Apollo and Daphne. *All performances take place at Mather Dance Center located at 11201 Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve University campus. All tickets are $5 and may be purchased at Mather Dance Center prior to each performance. Early arrival is suggested due to limited seating.
