Midview Band Alumni

The Midview Band Alumni will begin practicing for their upcoming performances for the 2015-2016 school year. Come out and join the fun! Rehearsals will be held on Thursdays from 6-8 and it is not mandatory to attend, but is recommended you attend at least one if you are going to perform with the group. Rehearsal dates are August 20th, September 3rd, 10th, and 17th and October 1st in the band room at Midview High School 38199 Capel Road Grafton, Ohio 44044. The band will be performing at the 2nd Annual Midview Parade of Bands on September 19th at 7 p.m. and at the Homecoming Game on October 2nd at 7 p.m. You may perform in one or both events. Ladies who are interested in joining our ensemble are invited to audition as well! Audition Be ready to learn a short dance combination. You will be asked to sing and read from the show. Synopsis Hair tells the story of Vietnam-era youths awkwardly but exuberantly creating their own rite of passage through the confusion around them. Among them are Claude and Berger; a pair of friends battling against Claude's draft notice, and Sheila, who is in love with both of them, but her politically-active lifestyle leaves her little time to act on her feelings. Ultimately, Claude decides that the hippie life isn't for him and goes to Vietnam. With themes of alienation and civil disobedience Hair illustrates the '60s generation's search for meaning through various "be-ins," "love-ins" and protests. Director Gwen Arment, a New York City resident, guest directs at Weathervane! In the New York area, she has directed at the Abingdon Theatre, Theatre 315, The Theatre Arts Center, Ensemble Studio Theatre (associate producer 1995), Broadway Theatre Institute for Musical Mondays Theatre Lab (Artistic Director 2002-2003) and The Century Center. Nationally, she also has directed at the South Jersey Regional Theater; Arundel Barn Playhouse in Maine; Charles Playhouse in Boston; Pennsylvania Stage Company; Mishler Theatre in Altoona, Pennsylvania; and at the Royal Palm Festival Theater in Florida where she received Carbonell nominations for choreography and performing. As a teacher of professional actors, alongside guest faculty instructors from the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 2004, Gwen co-founded and currently remains the artistic director and producer for Hell's Kitchen Musicals (HKM), a company which develops new works with readings, staged readings and showcases. Most recently, HKM produced the new musical, Peg O' My Heart, for New York City's 2011 Midtown International Theatre Festival. It won the award for best musical. Among the many celebrated artists with whom Gwen has worked are Gower Champion, Peter Gennaro, Donald Saddler, Christopher Hewitt, Bob Herget, Tommy Tune, George Faison, Ron Lagomarsino and Gwen Verdon. ###

Wandering Aesthetics' "phenomenal storytelling" brings laughter, fright to Kent

Written by Alyssa Keown in the Akronist.com <http://akronist.com/> Wandering Aesthetics successfully captured their audience with both laughter and fright on the opening night of their storytelling production “Boogers, Witches and Haints: Spooky Stories from Appalachia.” The show is being presented at the Standing Rock Cultural Arts building in Kent, Ohio and the performance company welcomes all with hospitality and enthusiasm. Incorporating the company’s unique style, Benjamin Rexroad (Co-Artistic Director of Wandering Aesthetics) produced a show you will not find anywhere else. The production economically utilizes a minimalistic set, allowing solo-performer Kyle Jozsa to rely on his phenomenal storytelling talent to create the imagery and characters within the stories. He accomplishes this with wild, dramatic gestures and an abundance of voices. With these skills, Jozsa walks audiences through the trails of Appalachia and into different hostels where the artistic duo picked up the three frightening tales they present throughout the show. By moving all about the stage, and even jumping into the audience, Jozsa brings the audience to laughter and fright during these superstitious legends that Wandering Aesthetics took from the mountains and brought back to Akron, Kent, and many more places to come. The performance is open this coming weekend and I recommend, anyone looking for something new to experience in the theatre, go see this hour-long production of funny and eerie ghost stories. *** “Boogers, Witches and Haints” continues its run on Friday, July 31 and Saturday August 1.
