Emily is a high school principal who leaves her boyfriend after discovering that he has a dark and controlling side. She heads for a backpacking weekend in the mountains to clear her mind, but when she stumbles upon a dead body, she realizes that life is only going to get more complicated... And someone is watching her. Emily is forced to face her deepest fears in ways she never thought possible and realizes that sometimes the only way to get justice is to fight for it. Deadpoint is a genre-mashing nonstop adrenaline ride with a powerful female lead. Emily uses her intelligence and physical power to fight the forces of nature-- and the forces of evil. Think of it as Deliverance meets Halloween - but this time, Jamie Lee Curtis doesn’t put down the knife. The film is as fun as it is terrifying, and with equal parts feminist politics and compelling storytelling. Deadpoint will be shot in Logan and Athens, Ohio in September by award winning filmmaker, Matthew Herbertz. He recently received a substantial grant from Ohio University to aid in this production of his thesis film. CHARACTERS: EMILY (Must be in physically fit condition! Will have to climb on rocks in hocking hills region, swim in the strong hocking river, be outdoors in the elements for almost all of shooting!) F, 30 – 35 years old, any race Emily is a single physically fit thirty five year old high school principal who moved to the area just over a year ago. She does not have many friends and is not particularly close to her family. A pensive and independent loner. She spends most of her time at work but, when she isn’t running a high school, Emily is outside hiking, trail running, and camping. She has just started dating Rick and starts to realize he is not at all the man she thought he was. In fact, he is like all of the men in her life: hyper-masculine, oppressive, and controlling. Emily is strong, resilient, intelligent, resourceful, and LOVES the outdoors. RICK M, 35-38, white Rick is a know-it-all macho alpha male who has to wear the pants in the relationship. Strong women intimidate and scare him. At first, Rick thought Emily’s presence and manner was a good balance for his personality. Now, he finds himself trying to control her and make her do what he wants to do in order to feel in power. He sees Emily as a trophy that he can show off to his friends. Rick is in very good shape, muscular, attractive, charismatic and HATES the outdoors. MICHAEL M, 25-28, white (dead body/makeup work must be done) A man who wants to become one with nature. Michael frequently has his shirt off and has the chiseled body to own it. The raggedy khaki carpri’s he wears low on his hips in the middle of the forest make him feel free. A child-like character who smokes a lot of weed and plays with fireworks. He lives his life in a zen-like state of mind taking it as it goes. He frequents the same parks Emily hikes and often makes camp where he isn’t allowed. A harmless rebel. THE KILLER M, any adult age, stocky, muscular, and physically fit! *What Happened to The Golden Rule?* *Kulture Kids’ Original Children’s Theater Performance Shows Manners Matter* Children and their families are invited to journey with a zany (and not so polite) archaeologist in search of The Lost Temple of Ma’at, the Egyptian goddess of truth, justice, and civility. Ancient Egypt comes to life in a spectacle of magic, comedy, music, dance, and hieroglyphics that urges us all to remember our manners. This is a show you don’t want kids to miss! Kulture Kids’ newest original children’s theater production, *Ma’at is Missing: Deciphering Manners* addresses the seeming lack of civility, manners, and kindness in society today. The audience is tasked with helping a nutty professor discover and unravel clues to the Lost Temple of Ma’at and decipher the ancient hieroglyphics within that illustrate how we should treat one another. From simple etiquette when coughing or sneezing, to how we consider others’ thoughts and feelings before we speak, Ma’at is Missing guides children on an expedition to find out why our manners matter. Ma’at is Missing: Deciphering Manners will take the stage on August 21 at 7:00pm, August 22 at 3:00pm and 7:00pm, and August 23 at 7:00pm. Auditions for Cry Havoc, a WWII nurse drama

The Broadview Heights Spotlights will be holding auditions for “Cry Havoc” by Allan R. Kenward on *SATURDAY, AUGUST 8 at 12:00PM* and *TUESDAY, AUGUST 11 at 7:00PM*. No appointment is needed, but auditioners must arrive within one hour of the start time. Callbacks, if needed, will be by invitation only and held on the afternoon, Saturday, August 15. *Rehearsals will begin the week of September 27* and will typically run Sunday – Thursday evenings with some weekends, based on cast availability. *The show runs November 6 - 21. * Please bring a list of conflicts between September 27 and November 21. *Ryan Bergeron* is directing this dramatic play. Roles available for 12 strong female actors, able to convincingly portray ages from 17 to 70. Women of middle age are especially encouraged to audition. A prepared dramatic monologue is strongly encouraged (although not required, auditioners may choose to read from the script). Featuring an all female cast, this is the story of nurses on Bataan during World War II. In a sort of dugout subjected to gunfire the individual characters emerge to offer a collective reaction to war. These include the strong minded doctor, her restrained and poised assistant and the volunteer nurses: a vacuous Southern girl, a swaggering bully, a couple of timid aesthetes, an ex-burlesque girl and the inevitable spy. They get on each other's nerves, arrest the wrong person for spying and confront the real traitor. They are rescued from their buried dugout only to face the firing squad.
