EVENT: Dover Players' Presents a New Drama - Branches Dover Players' original drama, Branches, is an intriguing combination of Our Town and The Twilight Zone. Protagonist, John Ryan, in a dreamlike state, revisits points in his life, branches, where he had faced options and finds himself trapped by a Twilight Zone-like twist. What makes Branches unique is the fact that the audience determines the outcome. The show is written and directed by the creative local playwright and actor, Gregory J. Lavelle. John recently had a one night stand with a woman in his office and cannot bring himself to confess to his wife. The audience then decides whether to bail John out, or to let him face the consequences of his actions. When disco diva wannabe Deloris Van Cartier sees her gangster boyfriend Curtis Jackson commit a murder at the grungy club where she’s performing, she reports the crime to the police and is placed in the witness protection program. Disguised as a nun named Sister Mary Clarence, she is placed in the convent of the Holy Order of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith, where she finds herself up against the rigid Mother Superior. Deloris uses her singing talent to inspire the other nuns to create a more contemporary choir, and they become the hit of the community. Word of their success reaches Curtis and his mob, who arrive on the scene to settle their score with Deloris and find them- selves battling not only her, but a gang of feisty nuns and the Mother Superior as well. *The Art of Play--Creating Theatre for Children A Professional Arts Workshop Series with Alison Garrigan CPAC 2016 Creative Workforce Fellowship Grant recipient and Executive Artistic Director for Talespinner Children's Theatre* A series of free workshops for adults, 18 and over, on how to create challenging, engaging, intelligent, and playful theatre for kids and families. During the first part of her Fellowship year, Ali has traveled around the country, meeting with other like-minded makers of arts for kids--now she is combining what she has learned with her own method of theatre creation, and wants to share it with fellow theatre artists, teachers, parents, and the joyfully curious and playful--to give back to our amazing community.
