Synopsis:In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a lifelong struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways. Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean's adopted daughter.

Beck Center Auditions for Newly Announced Drama

Beck Center is thrilled to announce auditions for the regional premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's timely drama *A GREAT WILDERNESS, *directed by Beck Center Artistic Director Scott Spence *A GREAT WILDERNESS* replaces the previously announced production of *THE DRESSER*. Auditions (By Appointment) will take place on *Sunday evening (January 15th)* and *Tuesday* *evening (January 17th)*. You may secure your slot for one of those evenings by calling the Beck box office at 216-521-2540 x10 *A GREAT WILDERNESS* will open on Friday, March 3rd and continue through April 9th. It is anticipated that rehearsals will begin on or around January 30th. There are 6 roles (3 female, 2 male, 1 teenage male---see below for more information). Auditions are open to both Equity members and Non Equity. It is anticipated that two AEA contracts (Special Appearance Tier One) will be used for this production. All actors who are 18 and older are compensated for their participation. *All roles are open!!* Ideally actors should prepare one brief (60 to 90 second) monologue (comic or dramatic). ABOUT THE PRODUCTION Things as They Are Written by David Todd Original score composed by Ben Chasny Directed by Anjanette Hall May 12 - 28, 2017 Reinberger Auditorium (Upstairs Loft) SYNOPSIS Things as They Are is a meditation on the life and work of American poet Wallace Stevens. A collage of scenes, poems, movement, and original music, Things as They Are looks past the stock image of Stevens as an aloof attorney to find a striving son, an uncertain husband and father, a part-time comedian, and a full-time Modern giant. The play tracks its subject from run-ins with Marcel Duchamp in the 1910s to Ernest Hemingway in the 1930s, from crises with wife Elsie to reconciliations with daughter Holly, and from his beloved Pennsylvania countryside to his exotic refuge of Key West. Through a series of linked vignettes, it reveals the real Wallace Stevens to be a man of great insight, contradictions, whimsy, and desire. Things as They Are was written by David Todd, and includes excerpts from Wallace Stevens’ original work by arrangement with Alfred A. Knopf. Directed by Anjanette Hall, this world premiere features an original score composed and performed by Ben Chasny, the creative force behind the celebrated group Six Organs of Admittance. The Dark Room is an ongoing event held on the second Tuesday of each month. The Dark Room affords emerging and veteran playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. It offers a venue to workshop plays, novels, poems, or any other written work in a supportive, yet critical environment. *Tuesday, January 10th* *The Parish Hall at CPT *(just east of the Gordon Square Theatre) Cleveland Public Theatre 6407 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102 *7:00pm: *Sign-up begins for writers and actors. The Canal Fulton Players will be doing Ray Cooney's raucous comedy "Two Into One" on March 3-5, 10-11 at the SALT Box Ministries, 408 West Market Street, Canal Fulton, Ohio. The play deals with a scheming member of English Parliament who is trying to set up a dalliance between the Prime Minister of England and a young woman at a far away hotel. However, instead of doing it himself, he decides to allow one of his young aides to make all of the arrangements. Unfortunately, the aide botches everything with very comic results. In the tradition of "Run for Your Wife" and "Caught in the Net," this play will have the audience rolling in the aisles. There are ten parts- 5 female and 5 male. The roles are: Richard Willey- a prominent member of Parliament Pamela Willey- an impetuous woman The receptionist- described as very efficient The hotel manager- described as brusque and in his fifties The waiter- an oily type of fellow Lilly Chatterton- another prominent member of Parliament who is a crusader against pornography George Pidgen- a put upon man who is cheerful Maria- the Spanish chambermaid Jennifer Bristow- a young twenty year old woman Edward- a young man in his twenties The director is Charles Hayward. Watch Verb Ballets perform in NYC via livestream tonight at 8PM

A new work by Verb Ballets dancer, Antonio Morillo, was selected by the Martha Graham Company for the Next@Graham Studio Series. The company will debut the work on January 4, 2017 at 8:00pm at the Graham Studio Theater in NYC. Six other national companies and Graham Alumni, Pascal Rioult/RIOULT Dance NY will appear on the program. Morillo's new work is titled Pieces of Yearning and in it he explores relating the environment to movement development. The work will premiere at Next@Graham from two cities integrating Verb dancers in Cleveland with Verb dancers performing live at the Graham Studio Theater. This is Morillo's first season with Verb Ballets. Morillo has performed with the Patel Conservatory's Next Generation Ballet as well as Tampa City Ballet. Morillo is overjoyed to have had his piece selected by the Martha Graham Company. Verb Ballets is honored to have performed Martha Graham repertory and to return to The Martha Graham Studio Series as part of the Graham Family.
