Hi all- I am looking for people interested in participating in our first ever BOO at the Museum on Saturday October 28 from 10-2 pm. Specifically looking for actors interested in portraying Negro League players and Women's league players (think League of Their Own) in cameos around the park. Also spectators from back in the day (1891- 1940s). Compensation will range from $75- 100 depending on the role. Spaces are limited. Jim performs children's plays at the Yankee Peddler Festival each year and has directed numerous other children's plays for Dover Players, The Rabbit Run Theater, Twinsburg Community Theater, and conducted youth theater workshops for the Western Reserve Playhouse. In addition to his youth theater workshops, Jim has directed a number of plays for the Western Reserve Playhouse in Bath, Ohio, such as Neil Simon's God's Favorite in which he won an Excellence in Set Design Award from OCTA. In 2007 Jim also won a Merit in Directing Award from OCTA for the Western Reserve Playhouse production of Opal's Husband. Hiring Diverse Actors (All Races, Genders & Ages) for Civil Rights Testing in Cleveland

The Center for Civil Rights is hiring actors of all races, genders and ages in the Cleveland area to help us investigate discrimination. We conduct civil rights testing across the country. For example, if we believe that an apartment complex is discriminating on the basis of race, we’ll hire a white actor and an actor of color to both go to the complex “undercover," and inquire about renting. If we find that there is a pattern and practice of discrimination, we may file a complaint. We pay actors $125 for a typical assignment. We’ll be conducting a training in Cleveland on Tuesday, October 10th, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. We’ll be conducting an identical training the next evening, on Wednesday, October 11th, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Participants can choose whichever date they prefer. Participants will be paid $75 for completing the training. Leveling Up Opens Next Week at Ashland

Ashland University Theatre presents LEVELING UP by Deborah Zoe Laufer directed by Teresa Durbin-Ames *October 11-14 at 7:30 p.m.* *October 15 at 2 p.m. | Studio Theatre* *Opening Reception: *Wednesday, Oct. 11 immediately following performance *WARNING: Show Contains Adult Language & Content* Ashland University Department of Theatre opens the 2017-2018 season with Deborah Zoe Laufer's 21st century American drama, Leveling Up. Directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Teresa Durbin-Ames, the play is about three twenty-something roommates who are glued to their video games and have a hard time navigating the blurry line between their virtual and real worlds. They spend hours with people playing virtual war games and think they are their friends, but do they really know them. When one of them uses his gaming skills to land a job with the National Security Agency launching actual drones and missiles, he begins to realize that not everything is “just a game” and there are real consequences. With the theatre season’s theme of “Building Bridges,” AU Theatre is striving to provide opportunities to better understand ourselves and others with performances that encourage dialogue about challenges in our world today. Leveling Up dramaturg and cast member Jake Riley explains, “This isn’t a play to merely present you with a meaning, but to get you asking questions about reality, friendships, futures, and anything else to start a discussion.” Comprised of roles for three males and one female, the cast includes the three roommates who live in an apartment in Las Vegas, Nev., and one of their girlfriends. The most serious of the gamers, Ian, is played by sophomore theatre major Alejandro Ridolfi (Parma Heights); while his roommates Chuck and Zander are portrayed by senior vocal music major Jake Riley (Wooster) and freshman graphic design major Tristan Peterman (Canton), respectively. Jeannie, Zander's girlfriend, is played by sophomore musical theatre major Maya Rickard (Wooster). The show’s production staff includes guest lighting designer Wally Eastland. As a lighting and scenic designer for theatre, dance and opera in both the U.S. and Australia, he has worked for companies such as North Carolina Stage Company, Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Lost Nation Theatre, Cumberland County Playhouse, Sly Rat Theatre Company, and LA MAMA Australia. His selected credits include: 4000 Miles, On The Verge, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Steel Magnolias, Driving Miss Daisy, The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire and Valse Fantaisie. Eastland earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and is a proud Member of United Scenic Artists Local 829. Other production designers include AU Theatre Technical Director J. Michael Desper as the scenic and sound designer with assistance from student designers Ivey Buffenmyer (Ashland) and Nik Demers (Shelby), while Drew Berlin (Barberton) serves as the costume designer. Cleveland Play House, America’s first regional theatre and recipient of the 2015 Regional Theatre Tony Award, is accepting applications for a Young Performer Supervisor to work on our production of A Christmas Story from Tuesday, November 14 through Saturday, December 23, 2017. This Supervisor will work with a lead Young Performer Supervisor on the daily management of seven young performers and three young understudies on the production. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS * Qualified applicants must be able to follow instructions, be reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented. * Experience working with children required. * Experience working in stage management or run crew on live theatre productions is a plus. * The Young Performer Supervisor will need to pass a criminal background check prior to first day of employment. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES * Communicate with parents/guardians of young performers on a daily basis. * Report any issues concerning young performers to stage manager in a timely manner. * Oversee drop-off and pick-up of young performers by their parents/guardians in rehearsal hall and theatre. * Ensure that young performers properly complete their role during rehearsals and performances * Collaborate with the lead Young Performer Supervisor to establish a consistent track for the young performers during performances. * Oversee completion of school work when young performers are not actively in rehearsal/performance (supervisor is not expected to act as a tutor, but is expected to keep young performers focused). * Assist in running lines and reviewing blocking as needed. * Other duties as assigned by stage management. Hours are mostly nights and weekends with some morning and afternoon calls.
