Anniversary Committee Member Bernice Bolek reflects on the milestone. “In 1927, a small group of women on the West Shore began producing live theater in the Little Red School House and for 40 years moved their productions around to multiple high school auditoriums. They called themselves the Bay Village Players, and they finally approached the City with an interest in Walter Clague’s old barn. In 1967, the City of Westlake leased the barn to them and supported their fund-raising campaign to renovate and upgrade the barn. Today, with new seating in place and audiences growing, it has gained prominence in Westlake.”------------------------------------

TheImportance of Being Earnest Will Be Presented on August 18-20, 25-27 at YogaCentral, 4626 Cleveland Avenue North, Canton The Canal Fulton Players are proud to present OscarWilde’s romantic comedy of deception and chicanery, The Importance of Being Earnest, on August 18-20, 25-27, 2017 at YogaCentral, 4626 Cleveland Avenue North, Canton, Ohio. This new venue gives the players a newperspective as to the presentation of comedies. Yoga Central has large room with a raised stage with numerous doors toenter and exit to add to the hijinks involved in this play. TheImportance of Being Earnest is a play in which two men assume the same identity todeceive the general public and loved ones. The inclusion of two men who are never seen or heard adds to thefrivolity as each character either kills these men off or resurrects them outof thin air. Confusion reigns supreme astwo women believe that they are engaged to be married only to find out thatthere is no fiancé to marry. Just asconfusion reigns supreme, the chicanery unravels quickly but not before the twomen employ other devices to obtain their goals. Unfortunately, they discover that their loved ones and others usedeception to thwart them. Is there anErnest among the cast? Who is this fellowBunbury? Is Jack who he says he is? And what about this Miss Prism? Making up the cast are: Brad Vincent as John Worthing, a prime proper landowner who goes to the city to have fun Mark Brown as Algernon Moncrieff, a bohemian type who loves to have a good time Geri Marken as Rev. The Fine Arts Association announces auditions for: "Wait Until Dark" By Frederick Knott Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher Director - Ann Hedger About the Show: Forty-seven years after WAIT UNTIL DARK premiered on Broadway, Jeffrey Hatcher has adapted Frederick Knott's 1966 original, giving it a new setting. In 1944 Greenwich Village, Susan Hendrix, a blind yet capable woman, is imperiled by a trio of men in her own apartment. As the climax builds, Susan discovers that her blindness just might be the key to her escape, but she and her tormentors must wait until dark to play out this classic thriller's chilling conclusion. Bronx accent a plus. Harry Roat - 30-50's, A very creepy sociopathic con man who is capable of murder. He is a loose cannon that reacts suddenly, violently and without conscience. He is the ringleader. He uses several accents throughout the play. Suzy Hendrix -25-35, Recently blinded in a car accident and still adjusting to her blindness. Likeable with a good sense of humor and a strong need for independence, but relies heavily on Sam, her husband. She is a perfectionist. A stature that makes her physically vulnerable. Sam Hendrix - 30-40, Married to Suzy. Professional photographer and a former Marine. Very organized. Kind, trustworthy and protective of Suzy. Gloria - 10-14, Upstairs neighbor to Suzy and Sam. Sam has been paying her to help Suzy with chores and shopping. Very independent and doesn't like to be told what to do. Acts out when upset. "Disney's The Little Mermaid" at Weathervane Playhouse begins Thursday!

Disney's The Little Mermaid set to make a splash in Akron! Weathervane Playhouse is set to take you "Under the Sea" in the Disney musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's Classic AKRON - Weathervane Playhouse presents its first production of our 2017-2018 season, Disney's The Little Mermaid, July 27 through August 13, 2017. Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a beautiful love story for the ages. With its tuneful songs and compelling story, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including Under the Sea, Kiss the Girl, Poor Unfortunate Souls, and Part of Your World. Director Chris Simmons says of the production, "I am beyond thrilled to be making my Weathervane directing debut with Disney's The Little Mermaid and with the Emerging Artist Series! I am continuously impressed with the level of talent and professionalism of the young actors at Weathervane." Disney's The Little Mermaid runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. for the first weekend, and at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays for the remainder of the run. Playmakers Youth Theatre Seeks Musical Director for Season

Good Afternoon!! Playmakers Youth Theatre in Beachwood is looking for a new Musical Director for the following two shows: - Willy Wonka (auditions early September, performances in December)- Guys and Dolls (auditions early January, performances in March)- Legally Blonde (auditions in February, performances in May) Ideal candidate should have experience working with and teaching kids music (these two shows are for students in 2-9 grades). Other important skills: organization, patience, and flexibility. We have a fairly short rehearsal process and try to work with your existing schedule and projects. Rehearsals are generally Sunday afternoons, Monday evenings. and Wednesday evenings. You will not be required to attend all rehearsals (i.e. blocking/early choreography). There is a stipend provided.
