We are in need of a few late 30s to 1942 period cars to place on the street for the exterior shots and an automatic transmission car from that era to be driven about 70ft. into a shot by the lead actor. We've made an intentional decision *not* to have a permanent space, so that our fiscal, time, and energy resources can be focused on producing theatre, not maintaining a building. As such, we've spent the past 6 years developing relationships with folks who can offer us both rehearsal and performance space from Canton to Cleveland - and everywhere in between - in exchange for rental fees, cross-promotion, shared programming, etc. This is also allowing us to develop an audience across Northeast Ohio that - so far - has been willing to travel within an hour's radius to see our productions. MOLLY SWEENEY will be produced at Weathervane Playhouse in Akron. THE END OF THE TOUR and SMOKEFALL both have multiple possible production homes, but will be confirmed definitively when the shows are cast to best leverage a "home court advantage." As potential actors, here's what you can expect. Rehearsals will be scheduled in a location central to everyone involved, and that information will be conveyed to you as part of a casting offer, so you know exactly what you're getting into before committing. Rehearsal location will almost certainly be different than final performance location - and you'll have *that* info as part of the offer as well. For some productions we may have a primary location (i.e. first two weekends in Cleveland) and a secondary location (third weekend in Canton); this information will also be part of your offer. The Akron Symphony Chorus will hold auditions for the 2018-19 season on August 6 and August 13. Auditions are by appointment only. Auditions will take place from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at The University of Akron's Guzzetta Hall, Room 354. Those auditioning for the Akron Symphony Chorus are also eligible to audition for the Akron Symphony Chamber Choir. The Akron Symphony Chamber Choir is a select group from within the Akron Symphony Chorus that will perform additional works at certain Akron Symphony Chorus performances. She has had several choreographical works adjudicated by Ronald K. Brown, Elizabeth Streb, Zvi Gunthier, Mark Taylor, Martha Myers and others. WHAT - JAZZ AGE LAWN PARTY AND SWING DANCE with live music and dance instruction This is THE dance to bring out your seersucker suits, knickers, and flowy flapper dresses! The Night Owls will play all of your favorite 1920s tunes in the ballroom. During the band breaks, we will have activities outside on the lawn and the veranda including croquet, badminton, cool treats, and all shellac DJ sets by Valerie Salstrom. WHERE - The Lakewood Masonic Temple swing dance is the longest running swing dance in the Cleveland area. Amazing live music and DJs have been keeping everyone's toes tapping the second Friday of every month since before 1998. The Lakewood Masonic Temple is located at 15300 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio. There is a large parking lot behind the building. Enter through the front doors. This month we will have activities on the lawn and veranda. WHEN - Friday, July 13th From 8-9pm Get Hep Swing instructors lead a beginner-friendly, partnered Charleston lesson. 9-12 the Night Owls hit the stage. THE BAND - The Night Owls are a unique 10 piece orchestra specializing in the authentic performance of the irresistible hot dance music of the 1920’s — the Golden Age of Jazz! The tuxedo-clad Night Owls perform songs such as “You’re Driving Me Crazy” and “Crazy Words, Crazy Tunes”, as well as fox trots, waltzes, and standards of the 20’s such as “Baby Face.” ATTIRE - 1920s-30s daytime attire is encouraged but not necessary. COST - Dances are $12 per person, $10 for students and seniors with a valid ID. WHO MAY ATTEND? You do not need to bring a dance partner but you may be dancing with lots of different people during the lesson and while the band plays, if you like. If you want to only dance with the person you bring with you, that is fine too. You do not need previous dance experience. We do hope you bring a positive and open mind and attitude. We welcome anyone to join us who has an interest in dance, music, socializing and fun. We don't care what your physical ability or size is, where you are in life, where you are on the spectrum of sexual or gender orientation, what color or creed, or non-creed, you are.
