Richard Dickinson promoted to Associate Artistic Director of Verb Ballets Former Ohio Ballet dancer to support high quality level production of Verb Ballets CLEVELAND, OH (July 10, 2018) - Verb Ballets announces the promotion of Richard Dickinson, MFA to Associate Artistic Director. Dickinson has been with the company for over eight years in different capacities. In addition to his professional work, Dickinson had an extensive dance career including principal and soloist roles at Ohio Ballet, Boston Ballet, Chicago Ballet, Honolulu City Ballet and various regional companies. Previously, he served as Artistic Associate for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and the Artistic Director of Ballet Western Reserve, Great Lakes Festival Ballet, Chamber Dance Theatre. He has also directed Boston Ballet II and has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Contemporary Dance from Case Western Reserve University. In the new role he will assist Dr. Margaret Carlson, Producing Artistic Director, in maintaining the highest possible presentation for the company and be a key part in the development of the community class program. “Richard's contribution to Verb Ballets has been valuable for many years, dating back to his initial role as Rehearsal Director” says Carlson. “During my tenure at Verb Ballets, he has been a key to developing the company dancers to support a high-quality level of production for the company. Review of "Next to Normal" at Porthouse Theatre

Porthouse’s marvelous ‘Next to Normal’ is everything but entertaining Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, American Theatre Critics Association Porthouse Theatre patrons still enchanted by the wonderfully effervescent, welcomingly escapist, highly entertaining production of “Anything Goes” are likely to experience severe vertigo during Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt’s musical “Next To Normal,” now on stage. In addition to its multiple 2009 Tony Awards, the show won a 2010 Pulitzer Prize. That year’s Pulitzer for feature writing went to The Washington Post for its haunting story about parents who accidentally kill their children by forgetting them in cars. A Pulitzer in theater suggests a similarly serious, thought-provoking, buzz-killing enterprise. The musical is about a contemporary American family crippled by mental disease. It offers a portrait of a chronically manic-depressive, delusional mother and how this disease infiltrates and infects her compassionate husband and teenage daughter. The production, directed by Jim Weaver as if its characters’ lives depended on it, is emotionally gripping from start to finish. So gripping, in fact, that you forget to blink, you forget to breathe, and the sound you hear underscoring the orchestration is the audience’s gasping. Did you know that Cleveland is growing a festival of international theatre? The BorderLight Festival of International Theatre is a 4-day performing arts festival launching in Cleveland in the summer of 2019. The festival will feature top flight performances from around the world, in addition to a fringe festival and collaborations with local companies. The series will be shot in Northeast Ohio and is intended to be an apolitical and family-friendly alternative to other sketch comedy shows currently on the air.
