The Y-Haven Theatre Project is a 21-year partnership between Cleveland Public Theatre and Y-Haven, a branch of the Greater Cleveland YMCA. Y-Haven is a transitional housing facility for formerly homeless men recovering from substance abuse and mental health challenges. Every year, CPT collaborates with the clients of Y-Haven to create an original theatre production, performed by the men and based on their life stories. The Y-Haven Theatre Project captures an authenticity and emotional power as the cast shares their true-to-life experiences often hidden from the world. PLOT SUMMARY - Father's Watch What creates your identity? Is it your name, your job, your parents... a combination of these? Junior Jones is confident in his chosen path as he prepares to leave home for an exciting new job. While packing his bags and helping his father move out, he discovers treasures and secrets that rapidly change who Junior believes himself to be. A blank space under the father's name on his birth certificate throws Junior into a tailspin. Who is his real father? What is his true identity? How does this impact his future? Uncle Calvin and the man Junior knows as his father begin to unpack the powerful secrets of their past-secrets that could tear the family apart. *CLEVELAND DANCE FEST PROFESSIONAL MASTER CLASSES* As you might know, Cleveland Dance Fest is November 8th and 9th and will be featuring 35 choreographers in 2 evening performances, an emerging works concert, a youth showcase, and a day of master classes for youth and professional/college dancers. We have some exciting master class artists teaching at the festival on Saturday, November 9th that I think you will enjoy. Taylor Knight & Anna Thompson of slowdanger will be presenting physical integration, a class that will integrate somatics practices, Laban Movement analysis & more into an exploration of the mind/body connection. Kora Radella (Kenyon College) will present a momentum based floor work practiced rooted in release techniques and will explore the idea of riding the edge of control. Gina Hoch-Stall’s (MFA Ohio State University) class will invite dancers to have a more in depth conversation with their bodies through play, sweat, experiment & fly (with and away) from gravity. Contact improvisation with Kelly Hurlburt & Josh Hines directors of Seabus Dance Company, will focus on the tone of the body, how dancer’s give/share/pour weight into one another, ride momentum and other ways to move with contact.
