Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby tells the story of Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, passionately pursues the elusive Daisy Buchanan. Nick Carraway, a young newcomer to Long Island, is drawn into their world of obsession, greed and danger. The breathtaking glamour and decadent excess of the Jazz Age come to the stage in F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel and in Simon Levy's adaptation, approved by the Fitzgerald Estate. The Great Gatsby is produced through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. Audition Information Auditions will be held at The Geauga Lyric Arts Center, 106 Water St, Chardon, OH 44024 (diagonally across the street from the theater; directly across the street from City Hall) Auditioners should be familiar with the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and be prepared to read from the script. Performance Information: Mar 6-22, 2020. Fri & Sat at 7:30PM; Sun at 2:00PM Roles Available Nick Carraway (25-35). Newly arrived from Minnesota to learn the bond business, Nick is also Daisy's cousin. Honest, tolerant, and inclined to reserve judgment, Nick serves as a confidant for those with secrets. Jay Gatsby (25-35). Charming and friendly but deeply flawed and dishonest, with an extraordinary optimism and power to transform his dreams into reality. Tom Buchanan (25-35). Daisy's immensely rich husband, knew Nick at Yale. Powerfully built and hailing from a socially solid old family, he is an arrogant, hypocritical bully. His social attitudes are laced with racism and sexism.

Painting the Town Open House Reception: November 3, 2019 2-4pm

The Shaker Arts Council (SHAC) is proud to announce the completion of our latest project *Painting the Town* – the wrapping of utility boxes in the Shaker Towne Center area. Three of the boxes are located along Chagrin Blvd at the intersections of Avalon, Lee and Chelton Roads. Two others are on Lee Road at Van Aken and Lomond Boulevards. A sixth box will be installed this week in front of Stephanie Tubbs Jones Community Center, on Lee Road between Van Aken and Chagrin. To celebrate these works of art, an open house reception will be held Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Avalon Station, 16800 Van Aken Blvd, Shaker Heights, OH 44120 from 2 - 4 pm. A map of the location of the boxes ranging from whimsical to the abstract will be available. Attendees are invited to meet the artists at the reception, visit their designs, tour Avalon Station and learn about our newest initiative – Building Blocks. The event is free and open to the public. TODAY, Sunday October 27 1-2:30pm Creative Movement Center, Broadview Heights $15 at the door *Tessa's Bio* Tessa Cannon grew up training at Armstrong School of Dance in Ithaca, NY in jazz, tap, lyrical, precision, ballet, pointe, and hip hop. In 2008, she spent time in NYC where she was a scholarship recipient at the prestigious studio, STEPS on Broadway, and trained in the Rockettes Summer Intensive. She went on to earn her dance minor (and her BA in zoology) at Ohio Wesleyan University, where she also was a choreographer & company member for Terpsicorps and a professional dancer in Orchesis. After graduation, she moved to Cleveland where she spent a season as a Canton Charge girl, one season as a Cleveland Gladiator girl, and one season as a Cleveland Cavalier Girl. She's since moved to Columbus and started her own non-profit, For The Love of Primates, but still makes time to travel to Cleveland weekly as a member of CDP Company, and a dancer/previous choreographer in the bi-annual CDP showcases. Missed opportunities abound in Ensemble Theatre’s ‘The Penelopiad’ Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Margaret Atwood’s book “The Handmaid's Tale,” which was turned into an Emmy Award-winning TV show in 2017, is set in a brutally repressive near-future patriarchy formerly known as the United States. There, young women referred to as Handmaids are stripped of their names, identities and rights, and ceremonially raped. At the center of the story is a woman determined to use her intelligence to survive this world and regain her sense of self. A similar theme, contemporary applicability and brand of feminism is evident in the author’s 2005 novel “The Penelopiad” which, in 2007, was turned into the compelling play currently being mishandled by Ensemble Theatre.
